Does anyone know if a matter smart home hub will allow tuya zigbee devices to work on SmartThings?
There’s no specific fingerprint for this device in the matter-switch driver so it will match a generic bridge profile based on deviceTypeID. Based on the description, it sounds like as long as devices can pair with the hub, they should bridge correctly. They have not implemented a Thread Border Router so you will need a v3, Aeotec, Station, or TV/Fridge with Thread support (or other non-ST device that has TBR support).
With Amazon’s liberal return policy, can’t hurt to give it a try.
That’s the zemismart version of the Tuya Matter Bridge. It’s been discussed in multiple threads already, I’m surprised you didn’t find any of them, but maybe you didn’t realize that “blindsmart“ was the same as “ZemiSmart.“
Anyway, the short answer is that while other versions of the Tuya matter bridge, like the one from Moes, have been successfully used by several community members, for whatever reason, the zemismart one has been problematic from the beginning. Lots of people saying they just never could get it to pair correctly.
If it does pair correctly, then, yes, it should bring in some of the Zigbee devices that are directly connected to it, although not all devices or all features.
At this point, given the trouble that people have had with it, I would have to recommend the Moes version instead. But if you get it working, let us know.
Here are some links to some of the other threads.
Here’s one from last week, where the OP was able to easily add the Zemismart to Home Assistant, but could never get it to add to SmartThings:
Add zemismart matter bridge to smartthings?
And here’s one about the Moes version, which sometimes took a couple of iterations, but which people were able to successfully get working with SmartThings. It lists some of the specific devices that people were able to bring over.
I could get it to pair with HA easily. Although the zigbee lights that worked under the zemismart hub in tuya never showed up in HA using matter. I ended up returning the hub.
Just an update from me. I ordered the MOES hub and everything worked as expected. Although the zigbee lights did not show up immediately in smarthings. I do not know why. But I left everything connected over night and the lights appeared in smarthings the next morning.
If you reboot your SmartThings hub after adding new ZigBee devices to the Tuya Bridge they will immediately show up in SmartThings.
But waiting overnight sounds like a good option.
Good to know I was just going to post on this. I have only added 2 lights so far. One showed up the other did not. Under Home assistant they show up immediately. I will try rebooting the smarthings hub. Seems like smarthings driver needs to implement a refresh button or something.
Two things to check:
-
what happens when the Tuya bridge loses power? Do you loose your bridged devices in SmartThings?
-
What is your bridges firmware? It may need to be updated. Mine was originally v1.9.2, but it was updated to v1.10.505, because it was loosing devices in ST whenever the bridge lost power.
I dumped the Zemismart branded hub and went with the MOES tuya hub. The MOES hub for me worked better then the Zemismart hub.
Reseting the Smarthings hub the additional light immediately showed up. I think that is rather annoying if you have to restart the smarthings hub each time you add a device to the MOES hub. But at least its a work around. Hopefully someone from smarthings can fix that sometime in the future.
The MOES firmware on mine I believe is 1.10.4
In smarthings its using a wired gateway driver
MOES firmware
FW v1.10.4 is probably good. v1.9.2 was a problem.
There is a refresh command in the Advanced Web App. I don’t know if that will help to import the new devices. I don’t think I have tried it. Next time I am at camp I will give it a try.
I’ll try it also I have more lights to add.
