Looking for advice about replacing hub

From everything im reading im begining to think that the version 2 hub is on its way out. I have about 70 devices & am thinking about buying the version 3 hub & 1 charging stayion. I also have a samsung tv that has the zigbee & matter hub. Im figuring i can combine all the hubs & slowly reace my zwave. Im not replacing my lock & schlage justngave me a new one & my smoke detectors that i just had to replace. I can slowly replace my sensors & switches as i go along. All your input is greatly appreciated but i do wiah @JDRoberts was here. Also i missed the sale for yhe version 3 router but i can buy a new one on ebay for around 70 dollars. Should i atick with amazon just in case? Thanks again.

Well, I have a V2 hub (and two spares) with about 60 Zigbee devices and about 10 Z-Wave.
I am happy with Zigbee and Z-Wave for now and am not rushing into Matter. I am also very careful when buying Zigbee and Z-Wave devices.
My V2 runs the same firmware version as a V3 hub so, while this remains the situation, I am in no rush to ditch my V2 hub or to talk it down on the SmartThings community forum.
This is just my opinion.

don’t take too much stock in what you are reading at this time.

I know @jkp. Can i ask what you are running? For now any matter devices i add i can add it to the tv & i do have a few outlets & switches that have to be reaced.

I have a V2 (currently my main hub), Station and Aeotec on the way (I took advantage of the BF deal at Amazon). No z-wave devices. A few zigbee devices left - leak sensors. Quite a few Matter over Wifi and Thread devices now.

I was gonna do the amazon bf spwcial but didnt. Things to ponder lol. Btw its quiet here without @JDRoberts . I hope they are fixing the site so its accessible for him.

I have 2 ST locations.

My Home location has a v2 hub with an Echo Gen 4 serving as a Thread Boarder Router.

My Cabin location has a v2 hub in the main building with a Tuya Matter Gateway serving as a Thread Boarder Router. I also have a ST station in an outbuilding which is out of range of my v2 hub.

I have had no significant problems with either v2 hub or the ST Station. As long as they keep working and ST keeps the firmware updated I have no plans to update them.

The v3 hub with its lack of memory seems like a step backwards to me. I currently have 456 devices and many community written Drivers spread over the 2 locations, so I don’t think v3 hubs will work for me.

If ST comes out with a new hub with more memory and an up to date Z-Wave radio I will consider buying them when my v2 hubs die. If not I may jump ship when I need a new hub.

I’m running the ST Mesh Wi-Fi Hub (Plume), refrigerator Family Hub with Zigbee/Thread dongle, and ST Station at my primary location. I have nearly 50 Z-Wave outlets, switches, dimmers, locks, and sensors. As long as the thing doesn’t die, I’ll stick with it for my Z-Wave stuff. The advanced features of the Plume Wi-Fi have stopped working but the basic stuff works, so again will stick with it till it dies. If it does ever die, I’d probably pick up a cheap v2/v3/Aeotec to keep my Z-Wave devices up and working while I transition them out.

For Matter devices, I’m using a combination of the Family Hub and the Station. My Matter over Wi-Fi devices are using the Family Hub, but I recently moved my Matter over Thread devices to the Station because the Thread stack on the Family Hub has an issue in the current firmware where it goes to sleep and stops processing traffic. I picked up the Station for about half price on eBay on a whim, but am happy with it so far.

As my Z-Wave outlets and switches start to die, I’ve begun replacing them with Matter devices. I’m very happy with the Eve Energy dual switched in-wall Matter over Thread outlets. I’m on the fence for switches/dimmers between the Leviton Matter over Wi-Fi devices or the Inovelli White Series Matter over Thread devices. Both are on the pricer side and right now the Inovelli gear has been sold out fairly often. Also, if you have limited Wi-Fi slots on your home router due to ISP limitations, you want to look for Matter over Thread to be sure you can scale.

At my second location, I have just a ST Station and am using Leviton Matter over Wi-Fi switches and dimmers which work very well.

After thinking, i want to replace my hub & add a charging station alongside my tv. My only problem is i missed out on the BF sepcial but i found a new hub on amazon for less. This is the upc code 810667025410. Is this a US hub. The seller is in the us & i sent a message but didnt get a response. Thanks for all your input. Oh… 1 thing @jkp … i know matter devices but what is mattee over wifi that works with smartthings? Didnt know they had devices out there like that yet.

One product (out of many available) is the Tapo Matter over WiFi. I have been replacing older outdoor WiFi outlets with their products. Connect using Matter instead of the cloud to cloud integration. The devices run locally on the hub. They offer indoor/outdoor outlets, bulbs, switches and dimmers to name a few. But again, there are many other brands to choose from that don’t require another hub to port to ST…

The one item I am waiting for are leak sensors.
