I have a pair of routines that are meant to trigger when I enter or leave the geofence around my home. They worked nearly flawlessly until my (and my wife’s) Galaxy S22 Ultra(s) updated to OneUI 7 and Android 15. Previously, I had to build in a 10 second delay to prevent the routine from running before I was actually home. However, after the update, I have removed the delay, and the routine still may not run until I am already inside the house. Due to the location of streets near my subdivision, I cannot increase the size of the geofence without creating a new set of issues. I have done all the normal diagnostic steps, uninstalled/reinstalled, clear cache and data, restart the hub (V3, 2018), restart phone, etc. Permissions are correct and have not changed from prior to the update. I used to be able to email SmartThings support, but that email address appears to be discontinued. Does the community have any suggestions to improve the reliability of these location based routines?
Since there appears to be no fix for poor geofence triggers in SmartThings, I took advice found in other threads, and I am using Amazon Alexa’s geofencing capabilities to trigger the routine in SmartThings. So far, it has been 100% responsive to the geofence. Seems silly to have to rely on a third party to trigger a routine that worked flawlessly in ST for years, but here we are.
I have experienced the exact same thing since the Samsung UI7 update and Android 15. Everything work flawlessly until now. My wife or I would pull in the driveway and the lights would come on and shut off when we leave. Now there is a HUGE delay. SmartThings will report that I came home 3 hours after I actually did. Or I’ll take a midnight run to 7s and it will seem to register I left for a short period, but it won’t report I’ve returned until 2am, turning on living room and hallway lights.
Another great example just happened 10 minutes ago. I came home to watch the kids and my wife left about 10 minutes after I got home. The Security Manager is set to arm ONLY when BOTH of us have left the house. So SmartThings still thinks I’m out and my wife leaves and both the internal and external alarms start going off freaking my kids out and waking up my 1 year old who took a solid hour to get to bed.
What the heck happened? I’ve given SmartThings every location permission, including precise location. I’ve deleted both phones and readded them. I had a bunch of other stuff set up based on location like the outdoor accent lights and porch light turn pink for her when she gets home and blue when I do. The kids loved this because they knew either one of us would be in the house in about 30 seconds.
Now it just triggers randomly and for no reason. This was really a great feature and almost drives me to flash back to Android 14 on our S24U, S25U, and 2x Pixel 9s. We also have Galaxy7 LTE watches, 44mm for her and 40 for me. Could this be related? Is the watch incorporated somehow.
Really need some help on this or I’m flashing back because UI7 is total garbage and I thought it would be nice to have a new version of Android since I strip off all the Samsung junk and disable Bixby.
HELP! HELP! We need some ideas to pursue, I don’t care how far fetched. I’m going to be cross posting this on Reddit, X, basically anywhere and everywhere. And I’m sure it’s some stupid power saving app that was added. I’ve even gone as far as enabling full GPS constellation requirements.
I appreciate your help on this and none of this is directed at anyone but Samsung and Google.
