Leviton ZW4SF is not recognized by AEOTEC hub - have AT&T extenders

I have a new AEOTEC VP301 and I am trying to add a brand new Leviton ZW4SF fan switch. I set the the switch in pairing mode and the ST app does not find it. The switch is pretty far from the hub but the WiFi signal is very strong because of the AT&T extenders. Tried the exclusion as a last resort, but again it just does not find the device at all.

Wi-Fi signal has nothing to do with the Z-Wave signal. If the device is quite far from the hub and there is not a strong Z-Wave mesh, the hub will not find the device. Move the device closer to the hub or vice versa.

Duh - Sorry about that - I am new to z-wave. Does z-wave create its own mesh? If I install more devices will that help? The fan is way across the house probably does have signal issue.

Yes, Z-Wave is a mesh networking technology. Mains powered devices typically act as repeaters so the more of them you have, the stronger the mesh.

Thank you for this - I really appreciate it. I am going to move the device to a fan that is close to the hub to starts off.

This should help. Start with post 11 in the FAQ (I will link directly to that post), read that, and then go up to the top of the thread and read down. That should give you all the basics in how SmartThings networking works with the different protocols. :sunglasses:
