@yurioyoko - What worked? I am having trouble getting both a 912 and a 916 to pair. I even tried going to the bathroom as @JoshFink suggested above.
Brad_Whiteheadās method worked for me:
I had to call kwikset to find this out. Maybe this will help others.
Open the SmartThings app that is connected to your hub.
Dashboard
- 3 dots in the top right corner
- My Locations
- Gear icon in the top right corner of your hub
- Scroll down and select Hub name āACTIVEā in green text
- Z Wave Utilities
- General Device Exclusion
- Hit the āAā button on the lock
Then reconnect your lock.
The exclusion tool is hidden away/hard to find.
For the life of me, I canāt get the 916 to pair at all. Tried every method, including the exclusion. Iāve also tried it in the locked and unlocked position. Yet, no matter what, no success. While I have other devices that work just fine, the lock thing is by far the most troublesome. I have a Kwikset 910 that Iāve tried to pair, also to no success. And thatās why I got the 916, as I looked for something that perhaps was supported better.
What is confusing to me is, when I opted to try and force it (by selecting the device itself in the app), I didnāt find the 916 for Z-Wave. Instead it lists the 916 under ZigBee. So now Iām even more confused, besides the overall frustration. Iām about to return the 916 and completely forget about the lock part as something of a myth.
If anyone has suggestions, please please please do share. I did check the post that I thought was relating to what locks are supported by ST. But there was no list. Just discussion of this or that.
I have two 916s and two 912s. I had an issue pairing the 916, a factory reset solved it. Did you try that?
Did try that. Am considering getting a different one just in case. But Iām still concerned the app shows that the 916 in ZigBee is supported, but not the Z Wave version.
The app only shows the zigbee version. I have the z-wave. You have to use the general add method without preselecting the device. I never use the pre-identified device method anywaysā¦
BTW - You may have already tried / mentioned this, but did you try excluding the device first?
I did try the factor reset.
I returned the first one (looked like it had been opened before anyway). When I got the second one I still had issues. Still nothing with exclusion or inclusion. Not if within the 10 to 15 foot range, nor when mere inches away. That is, until I rebooted the hub. Immediately after that I tried the exclusion. And it excluded. Did the discover next, and found that worked.
Iāve had things work right away, and others not. But at least I have another option to try if they donāt. And that is rebooting the hub and trying again. Hopefully this will be something else for others to try if they run into the same issue.
As always, thanks for the repliesā¦
Thanks for sharing this Bradāworked on the first try. Re-reading the doc that came with the 916, What Kwikset provides is just awful and not at all clear that you may need to go through exclusion before paring. I really appreciate this info. Best regards, steve.
No luck here, did the exclusion and rebooted and tried again . going to return it.
hub was within 1 ft.
does the exclusion give any confirmation?
Hey man, not exactly sure what to tell you but I was about to return mine to but decided to try one more time⦠the exclusion is what I think ended up doing it for me but it took like 5 triesā¦(annoying to say the least) but ever since it has been paired it has been working without a flaw⦠sorry, hopefully, this isnāt a pointless thing to postā¦
i tried it and exclusion does not give me any confirmation. so i donāt know if it worked or not. i will try again though. thanks.
I have a Kwikset 916 lock that keeps added to smartthings as a Kwikset 910. I have excluded the lock and tried again but it still adds as a 910. I can unlock and lock it with SmartThings but cannot add codes. Any ideas on what to try
thanks
Thank you, Brad, that did the trick! This is my third 916 and I never had to do this before⦠thankfully your directions work. The UI on the app has changed, but I was able to find Z-Wave Utilities and disassociate the lock-- even though it wasnāt associated to begin with in the UI. Then reassociate the lock worked.
Thanks, worked like a charm!
