Is it time for me to reset my entire Smartthings system?

Every since the great database corruption of March 2016, my Smartthings system has progressively gotten worse and worse. It seems I can’t add new switches or change many existing smart app rules and the app itself gives me red banner errors more than 50% of the time when I try and change something (when the app works at all).

Right now I have about 50 devices on my Smartthings network and I think it may be best to just delete everything and start over, and I’m looking for opinions of those who have done this type of thing before.

  1. Is there a best practices document I can read to help ensure I don’t make rookie mistakes?
  2. Should I buy a V2 hub to go along with this manual recreation of my network?
  3. Will this actually fix my issues or is the backend of Smartthings still pear shaped?

I wouldn’t do it right now, as there is a current cloud problem being reported by a number of members.

Once that’s fixed, maybe.

The difference in rebuilding your rules on your existing account and migrating to hub v two is that when you migrate you have to individually pair each device which includes physically pressing buttons or removing batteries, etc. So that process is a lot more physical work. But if you’re considering deleting all your devices anyway, then of course that’s the same as migrating.

As to whether you get any improvements or not, it’s just hard to say. When’s the last time you did A network heal/repair?

If you have been having issues for the last couple of months I would be happy to see if we can figure out what is going wrong with your setup

Ok here’s a start, in the IDE I just got this error when clicking on one of my devices to try and clean up old smartapps I no longer use:

And just force deleted a lighting manager smartapp I don’t use and got this:

Unfortunately both of those issues are related to the issue that we are experiencing in NA right now. Once this clears up we probably can get some more reliable data points since this isn’t isolated to today.

The fish is totally dead at my end. NJ.

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing. I have not had any bad problems, just thinking about some big additions and want to upgrade the hub/platform before, so that I don’t have to do it twice.

For what is worth the past 72 hours my performance is compromised and have struggled. I have gotten more 500 errors in the past 48 hours than over the last 6 months. Smart Apps wont execute - or the delay is significant (dangerous if you are in the dark) - I have swapped out batteries on devices - re paired etc etc… sometimes via IDE “updating” the Smart App will help for an hour or 2. My system is a bad bubble right now.
