Hub Firmware Release Notes - 18.18

@JDRoberts Thank you. More reading this weekend

I got the 18.22 and recently, including today, my hub goes inactive and then comes back. This is something new as of a few days ago.

It happened about 20 minutes ago. I received a notification that my home hub is now active. I check the notifications and at the same time it became disconnected and then active. There are actually two line items for the same active notification.

This has also happened in the middle of the night last night.

Interesting. Same here.

Last night it was about 10:55 PM central. I had to reboot again myself after to get all devices back online. It was a mess:

@nastevens @posborne
Any ideas about why I keep getting hub disconnects after the 22 update? See the last two posts above.

Happened again at 5:10/5:11 CT this morning.

Same here again. Same times as you.

@Nezmo @SquattingHen Could you please PM @posborne and I your emails you use for your SmartThings account? Then we can take a look. Thanks!

Done, thanks!

Thanks for the schooling. I have no installed zigbee devices, but I still try to keep my WiFi away from the ST hub channel

Does as well. Thank you.

During an update do Zigbee devices fall off their position on the mesh, and the mesh then rebuild again? Last 3 updates I’ve noticed my furthest outlet is unreliable until a couple of days after each update.

The information about how to route messages through the network is rebuilt every time the hub reboots to apply a firmware update or for any other reason. If that furthest outlet doesn’t have a good connection to other routers (ex: the hub, outlets, bulbs and other mains powered devices) then I could see it taking some time to reestablish the route.

Intersting. That implies that the often-mentioned process of powering the hub off completely for 15 minutes or so to force zigbee devices in to panic mode is not necessary?

Powering the hub off for that long will cause any end devices that were connected directly to the hub to instead join through a nearby router if one is in range. At best this adds a bit of latency but at worst it adds network instability if the connection between the child and new parent is not great, or it the parent is one of the devices that are known to be problematic like GE Link bulbs that can just completely fail to route messages for its children.

When people experience zigbee network problems I typically recommend powering off any GE Link bulbs, OSRAM bulbs with outdated firmware, and any other router that is believed to have problems. The goal is to force end devices to join directly to the hub or to other routers in the network that are left powered on. After about 10 minutes a quick reboot of the hub doesn’t hurt as it ensures the routing tables are rebuilt according to the new network topology, and then you can power on all the stuff you powered off originally.

Thanks Tom for the additional explanation.

The “at least 15 minutes” is more to make sure that

A) you catch any sleepy devices

B) you do exactly what @tpmanley describes and force the use of any new repeaters that have been added to the network

His advice to remove unreliable repeaters first is very good.

Thanks Tom

When I started having flakey ZigBee issues (fan controller mostly) I removed all GE Links, permanently. Also, two OSRAM GardenSpot Lightify strings; but I’d really like to bring these back. A couple of thoughts/questions:

Might there be a firmware update that helps these repeat?

Alternatively, any way to bring them online and force-exclude them from participating as a repeater in the mesh? (I tried unplugging them and rebuilding the mesh, but after a while they appeared and some devices insist on going way out of their way to use them as a repeater :mask:.)

BATTERY STATUS

My ST hub is not updating battery status. This has been the case for around 3 weeks.

My Aeotec panic button went flat earlier this week (but still showing 40% battery). Changed the battery and it continues to show 40% !!

I bought a new ST motion sensor 5 weeks ago and it has shown full battery for the duration.

Likewise, another ST motion sensor and ST multi sensor continue to show same battery power remaining as weeks ago.

Is this related to latest firmware? Are others also affected?

Dave

Thanks Ricci. Let’s hope there’s a fix on its way.
