How to populate the "Dashboard" section

Dashboars depicting the correct status is probably the most important feature for the users. A cursory glance and confirms everything is ok without having to dig into all over the place looking for as to what’s going on!

Which is exactly why I’ll never ever do that. I sure hope this comes back for the folks who didn’t know this was going to happen, as well as new users. I personally found a lot of value with Lights & Switches, Doors & Locks, Damage & Danger, Motion, etc.

I just can’t get my head around how the new Smart Home Monitor app is going to replace all that capability, or most of it, from other threads I’ve been reading.

Unless I missed something, SHM is reporting status of door sensors, but it’s not reporting locks being locked or unlocked. That seems a big miss.

THIS!
I did have a full, beautiful, useful Dashboard. Updated to the new app and decided to start clean. I removed all my shortcuts from the Dashboard, expecting to be able to re-install fresh shortcuts…NOPE! If you like the Dashboard, DO NOT REMOVE ALL YOUR SHORTCUTS! As long as you have 1 shortcut in the group, you will be able to add new shortcuts. This makes me wonder why we all can’t add our shortcuts back since the function is obviously available.

What about for those moving to a new hub? If you’re starting from scratch, what’s the point of the dashboard if all you have is SHM?

What am I to see in the second screen below? @slagle @kris

This…

So, only when something “bad” happens? Aah

I assume it will also include links to captured video clips for V2 hub users.

Well its not a smartthings app 2.0 issue, i rolled back to 1.7.1 (backups are your friend) and i don’t see any changes.

Are you talking about shortcut groups not being available in app 2.0 unless they’re leftovers from the previous app (and consequently disappearing forever from the dashboard if you remove the last device)?

That’s definitely a 2.0 issue, ST staff have discussed it in the forums and it’s on the official support pages for the new app generation. But you can ask support@smartthings.com if you have any questions about it.

Lighting Groups

Groups of lights, previously configurable in Lights & Switches, will no longer supported in quite the same way. However, SmartThings intends to bring back this functionality shortly. Alternatively, set up a Routine to control several lights, or explore what Smart Lights has to offer.

Or were you referring to something else?

That’s it, plus a few more misses in my opinion.

We so need the real “locks” in SHM.

So then i should be able to recreate the groups on the dashboard in 1.7.1. refresh my memory on how that happens?

To be honest, I don’t know one way or the other whether the backend still supports setting up the groups that existed in 1.71 or not. I don’t know whether just rolling back the app will do anything if you’re trying to create a new group now.

But as for how we used to do it, we used to do it through smart set up.

@JDRoberts and @sidjohn1, the old app (Android at least) doesn’t have the option anymore. I still have my wife’s phone on lockdown until app 2.0 stops crashing on my phone and is more stable, and I was able to verify you can’t.

Yeah I suspected there were going to be back end changes because the whole group structure has changed. Thanks for letting us know.

Yep, on IOS the Smart Setup screen for “Actions” no longer exist.

Wow, lucky that I read this thread. I was about to delete my things in dashboard and start all over. Guess I will hold back now.

In theory that is the case, but my home automation project started when I got tired of going in my son’s room to turn his fan, lights and lamp off. Would be convenient to go into the app and see which lights are on. If I need to open app, then go into each room (and get a black screen after I exit each of them) I might as well take a walk around the house to flip the switches off manually.
