Benji, I hear ya 100%. We’re constantly updating our firmware to adapt to customer concerns and issues and we’re looking at this one currently. The problem is there just isn’t a convenient way to get the new firmware out to customers’ existing devices, even after fixes are implemented. That is something else I’m pushing within the group; How can we provide OTA updates for customers…Unfortunately, not many hubs have made it to the point where they can push out updates periodically to connected devices.

It’s at least good to hear you looking into it. I realise ST and many other hubs don’t do Z-Wave OTA updates yet although I do have an Aeotec/AEON Z-Wave stick I could in theory move a device over to, perform an update and then re-add it back to ST. Could the files at least be made available for download? Aeotec/AEON are very good in providing firmware update files, it would be nice if other manufacturers followed their example.

Z-Wave OTA updates have been discussed many times before, I’ve commented on this issue before with Z-Wave switches when ST was asking use cases for ZW OTA updates:

All GE 127xx switches have some firmware updates however, the current stock DTH for all of GE’s type of Z-Wave dimmers (switches/plug in outlets etc) for later firmware version have an issue where sending a ‘set level’ type of command will cause the dimmer to jump directly to that level instead of gradually fading to the requested level. So for example if the light is off and I set the level to 100, it will instantly go from off to 100 whereas older versions will gradually increase from off through to 100 just fine. If the previous level was 100 and the light is turned off, then issued a ‘turn on’ command without a ‘set level’ it will gradually go from off to 100 like you would expect it to. I have both types of firmware versions: ver:3.35 zwv:3.40 = works as expected ver:3.37 zwv:3.6…

We’re planning to add Z-Wave OTA firmware updates but it hasn’t been put on a timeline yet – it’s likely still a ways out.
