Everspring Water Sensor ST812-2 not connecting to Smartthings

I purchased an Everspring ST812 flood detector based on the recommendations in However my SmartThings app isn’t seeing it when I add->device->scan nearby. If instead i go to add->device->Everspring->water leak sensor then it goes to the “Let’s get started with your Everspring” and I tap start the program appears to crash! It goes back to the previous screen and retry Android pops up a message “SmartThings keeps stopping”. Tried restarting, no help. Not sure what else I can do. Any suggestions?
