Does ST still support direct connection of IKEA Smart bulbs?

Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid and obvious question, but I’ve had my IKEA smart bulbs connected to my ST hub v2 for at least 5 years. Now I’ve just bought some new IKEA bulbs and wanted to connect them as well, but I can’t get them to connect. Does ST still support connecting IKEA bulbs directly to it or does it only support the Dirigera bridge nowadays?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, forgot to mention that I can see a lot of IKEA products listed (including bulbs) as supported in the ST app, but they are all listed with the note that “A hub is required”. I used to be able to connect them as just generic Zigbee devices but this doesn’t work anymore.

Your ST Hub v2 is this type hub.

I’m using Ikea bulbs directly connected to my ST Hub v3.

Earlier Ikea bulbs are in ST App lists, but newest models are not in ST App list. It’s still possible use Ikea bulbs directly connected to ST Hub.

Have you used my.smartthings.com advanced users?

I think that this is nowadays Ikea’s idea of how their devices should be connected to other home automation systems. Dirigera can be used as Matter bridge and then connect it using Matter to ST Hub.

Hi @Stefan_Berglund
Like you I have paired Ikea Tradfri bulbs with my SmartThings V2 hub for years.
While I have not tried any of the very latest Tradfri bulbs, I would recommend putting them in pairing mode (6 off/on cycles???) and putting them right beside the hub (within 10cm if possible) while pairing, before relocating them to their final location. It sometimes took me several attempts to get them paired.
I made special power leads for this purpose.
I really hope the new Tradfri bulbs are still SmartThings compatible; they are the only reason my lighting is automated.

Hi @Stefan_Berglund

When you get them into pairing mode near the hub, if it doesn’t exist in the stock smartthings driver, it should pair as a generic bulb or thing:

  • If it is a model with only dimmer or without dimmer then it should work fine.
  • If it is a model with color temperature or rgbw adjustment it will pair as generic rgbw 2700k-6500k and may not work well.

Once paired you can go to my.smartthings.com, advanced users and in the devices menu you can write down the exact model and along with the characteristics of the bulb it can be added to a community driver, such as zigbee light multifunction Mc
