I deleted my SmartThings hub by mistake. So far I have been able to reset my Z-Wave devices to factory and add them back to the hub. My frustration is my Zigbee devices. I cannot get them to connect to the hub. Why? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Did you reset them? For zigbee devices with batteries… this is generally as simply as removing/reinserting the battery to perform the reset.
I have tried removing the batteries then reinstalling them while the app searches for new devices nearby and by manufacturer and device. No luck so far. Most are older Sengled open close door window sensors.
start with the ones closest to the hub or those you can bring near the hub or the hub to close to them.
Thanks. I’ll give that a try tomorrow. Appreciate you assistance.
Your Zigbee devices will still think they are on the deleted hub’s mesh. The reinstalled hub will not be recognised. They’ll need to be put into pairing mode again, which is typically the same thing as a ‘reset’. Usually that involves holding a button for a few seconds, pressing it three or four times, or more rarely holding it down when the device is plugged in. Removing and reinstalling batteries might suffice for some devices but not any that I possess (it would make changing batteries particularly tedious).
You would typically expect to see a light flashing on and off on your device in a way it doesn’t normally do if the device is in pairing mode.
If you do have any mains powered Zigbee devices it is worth dealing with them first, starting with the ones nearest the hub. That will help you have a strong mesh in place when it comes to your battery devices.
Ouch! As someone who has done the same thing, it’s painfully obvious the current SmartThings app makes it way too easy to do this!
Glad you’re recovering from this debacle…
An Update to Deleting My Hub
8 days later and I have all 76 devices added back to my hub. What a hassle. But I learned a lot and have created a spreadsheet listing all my devices, the brand, the model, the name on the hub and Alexa, the firmware version, if I can get it, etc. I have also written out my routines, include, exclude and reset instructions by brand and device type. Much time was wasted looking up that information.
A big thank you to all that have helped me through this journey. A journey I never want to go through again. Thank you too to the support staff at Zooz and Schlage. Both are great companies with great support, even on old devices that are way, way out of warranty.
