Classic App - NO DEVICES, New App - NO CONNECTIVITY

So, without any warning whatsoever, yesterday I got prompted to log in again on my classic app. After I did so, ALL devices (70+), and ALL automations/smartapps/etc. were gone. Poof! Disappeared. App says I’m still connected to the hub, but there’s nothing there.

I brought up the new app to see what might be going on and, viola!, the devices are there. (Well, sort of, many show "unknown device, whateverthehellthatmeans.) But every single one of them is “Disconnected”, so I can’t touch them. Plus, all of the pre-existing smart apps are gone. Extremely unacceptable.

Spent an hour on the phone with support this morning and they’ve got nuthin. In the end her suggestion was to re-add every device. (Which I may end up doing, after that Hubitat I’m about to buy arrives.) As if I’m going to spend the next several weeks rebuilding (to the extent possible, given the limitations of the new platform). I asked her to escalate.

In the meantime, is this something that other’s have encountered? I searched but didn’t see anything directly relevant. Anybody out there know how to recover from this disaster?

To fix the Classic app issue:
Login to IDE at https://account.smartthings.com and click on My Locations and see if there are two locations by chance. Report back.

For STSC app, read up on the diffferences:

To possibly fix some of the device handlers (if using custom code) to get them to work on the STSC app:

Well, sumb*tch, there are now two locations. Thanks! Interesting, though.

Both locations appear in the IDE and the classic app. One (named “Home”, which appears to be new) has no devices in the classic app. The other (named “Aptos Home”, which is what I created) has all the devices in the classic app.

In the new app, though, there’s only one location (“Home”, the new one) and while no devices appear in that location in the IDE, they all appear in the new app. But they all still say “Disconnected” in the new app.

So, while I think I see what’s gone on here, it’s still a problem, as I can’t use the new app at all. I’m especially concerned since the support rep said that the classic app was going to be shut down in a couple of months.

You can delete the empty location if you want:
In order to delete a Home Location that has nothing in it:

  • Login to IDE at https://account.smartthings.com
  • Goto Locations
  • If you have multiple Locations, select the invalid one
  • Make sure there is no Hub associated to it
  • Scroll to the right and click Edit
  • If the Default Location shows “true” (will be read only)
  • If it is “true”, go back to Locations and select your primary (Real) location and set the default location to “true”
  • Now you can edit/delete the additional Home location as it will automatically be set to “false”.

If that fails to resolve the issue, contact ST support and they can do it https://support.smartthings.com

Are you using custom code on these? In which case you can make a small modification to the device handlers. Link was posted above.

Possible on some devices, you can open it in The SmartThings Classic app, click the cog in the upper right and save. Then refresh the STSC app and see if it is working properly.

Or let us know what type of devices are not working and perhaps we can offer solutions on some of them, possibly not all.

Best advice is to stick with Classic at this point but you can use both.

The instructions make sense and I can do that. But, If I do, won’t I lose all the devices in STSC? Right now it seems that, since STSC only sees one location, I’ll lose everything if I delete it. Not that what’s there is usable, but they are at least there. I’d hate to delete the location and then have to manually re-add all the devices.

A few, but most are using standard DTHs. Saving a device with a standard DTH in the classic app has no effect on its status in STSC.

Both apps should be using the same Location. Plus, if you look at the empty location in IDE, you will find no hub or devices associated to it. If you do, contact ST support to sync everything and remove the location.

Appreciate your help, JKP. From the IDE, I deleted the Location that was associate with STSC, in the hope that might fix it. Unfortunately, STSC still sees only the now non-existent Location and of course all of the disconnected devices. There doesn’t appear to be any way to delete that location from STSC, either. WTF, Samsung?!

I’d drop this and just keep using the classic app, but if it’s really going away in a couple of months I want to get this figured out as I’m going to need some time to make the transition, it seems. We’re shut down for a week over Christmas, so I’ll have some time to deal with this (or get a hubitat and call it a day).
Hopefully the escalation team will get back to me soon-ish.

There will have to be a huge improvement in the new app by whatever timeframe it turns out to be, else a lot of unhappy folks will be facing the same dilemma: to stay or to leave.

i walked away from my smart eco system for 6 months and after having to fix something im now just seeing whats going on. I hope someone can give me some direction. after reading and anylizing my own situtation here is my delimma.

i also have the two locations in the ide, they both say true and i am unable to delete the home location with nothing in it. i would like to have this deleted

Im using the classic app now with a few core pistons that are all still running fine but i am unable to edit or change anything inside the core app. Am i still able to edit core?

I can see all my devices in the ide under my devices but if i go to ad new divice or new app there is nothing showing. however inside my classic app all my smart apps are still showing and operating.is the classic app not syncing with the ide anymore?

My github is enabled and i tried adding webcore which i did in the IDE under the correct shard but in my classic app it does not show under +myapps and im pretty sure i followed all steps right, what else do i need to consider?
my alexa still operates all the lights just fine

I guess im trying to clean up my system and since all my other apps are working I really just need to get webcore working and delete core altogether but it seems to be extremely difficult with all this migration bs.
If someone could give me what the direction here is going to be along with my specific questions that would help me get my home life back on track…and i need new batteries

My Classic App had no devices showing, while the new app had everything. This clued me in to the second location, which I deleted. Incidentally, I got an internal server error when trying to delete the empty location. I found out it was because it was marked as the default location. I went into the other location, marked it as default, and was then able to go and delete the empty location.

Thanks!

Exactly the same with me. I deleted the empty location (after changing it from default to non-default) and now I have the Classic app back again.

Thanks a lot.

I have a bit different situation. I have 2 locations as well. Both set to True default and I can’t change them. However the difference is that one of the locations has all my devices and the other no devices but all my automation scripts!!! In the new app there is nothing, no devices, no hub connected, zero! I am close to resetting the hub and setting everything again, my only fear is that as someone said there maybe a limited possibility to edit the scripts, or is it?

And read the following thread and post there
