I have an older set of Samsung Washer & Dryers, but they should still connect to the 2.4GHz network. They are in the same room as the Google Nest Wifi Pro (they don’t allow you to turn off a specific frequency, unfortunately, it’s always on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz & 6 GHz.)
But I had an old Wifi extender, and I put that in 2.4GH only mode with a different name than my network but connected it to the Google Nest Wifi Pro to make sure I had internet access, which I did.
I did the same process to set them up. I don’t have a SmartThings QR code on them so had to add them manually, by pressing the Smart Control button until AP appears. My phone does find the washer and dryer but quits at connecting to the Wifi repeater, which is plugged in directly behind them. I recall in the past when I tried this that you could find the model number but maybe that’s changed with the new app.
Also, I have a brand new Samsung Dishwasher that connected flawlessly to SmartThings before I tried this setup. So it’s definitely something with the Washer/Dryer. All my other Samsung equipment is connected to the network fine. TVs, soundbars, etc
Hello! My mobile device is connected to the wifi extender when attempting to add the washer/dryer, only 2.4ghz and it’s set to WPA2. SSID does not have special characters, but my password does. I have over 60 IOT devices (most are 2.4) connected with that password so it’s a big undertaking to change it.
I’ll try a different repeater and see fi that helps, the one I’m using is fairly old and needs the main password to be the same as the routers, but I can see on newer models that you can have a different password for the extender than for the connection to Wifi.
So I created a solution. I purchased a NETGEAR Wi-Fi Range Extender EX6120 for $30 on Amazon. Because it allows you to connect to the main Wifi router with one password but create it’s own SSID and password for itself, I was able to bridge the two together. As soon as I started the process in the Smart Things app it instantly saw the Washer & Dryer and setup was very easy. It could have been that my password on my regular Wifi router has special characters in it, but I didn’t want to go into all of them and update it. I think this is just a case of an older appliance not supporting special characters (or something I’m not aware of) and now it works fine. I disabled 5 GHz just to be safe. Now I get alerts on my Samsung TV when the washer & dryer are done downstairs, it’s so much more efficient.
