Hi
just bought a Meross temp/humidity sensor which needs a Meross hub to operate. I have installed the new devices to the Meross hub via the Meross app then added the Meross hub to Smartthings. However, in the Smarthings app I can see the 4 Meross smart plugs that I added some time ago but not the temp/humidity sensor or Meross hub that I added today. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
How?
Meross devices are integrated either via cloud-to-cloud or Matter and the Meross hub is not a Matter bridge.
Hi @Andreas_Roedl I wnt into the Samrtthings app and did:
“Add device” | “Partner devices” | Meross | “Add linked service” and the Meross smart plugs show up in the Smarththings app.
I previously tried adding the QR code of the Meross hub but that did not work which is why I had to use this approach. How should I have added the Meross hub?
Are we talking about this hub?
That’s why it’s so important to mention the model. There’s another Meross hub that does not act as a Matter bridge.
I previously tried adding the QR code of the Meross hub but that did not work
… and the manual is completely useless:
There are three different ways to add Matter devices to ST:
Try them all and make sure your hub/bridge is in pairing mode.
Hi @Andreas_Roedl I have the MSH450 Meross hub (no -MA or -HK suffix) which has a Matter QR code. I scanned the QR code and then put the hub in pairing mode but only got as far as the “prepare your device step” then everything stopped (your option 1). Next I tried “scan for nearby devices” (your option 2), again with the hub in pairing mode, but nothing happened there. Finally I tried “Partner devices” (your option 3) which is how I managed to add the hub. However, it only shows some devices added to the Meross app before I installed the hub. Agree that the Meross manual is useless …
Finally I tried “Partner devices” (your option 3)
Huge difference between Partner Devices → Meross and Partner Devices → Matter…
But first things first: do you have a SmartThings Hub?
Ah … yes, there is … might need new glasses … tried adding a Matter device but got no further than “prepare your device” as before. Am trying to unlink the meross account in smarthings but it is taking a long time
Yes, I think I have a SmartThings hub (Aeotec - can’t read model number on back)
Sometimes you have to power cycle the (Meross) Matter bridge when the message "prepare your device step” shows up.
It’s a bit of trial and error, luck and timing with some devices.
Took about a full day for me to add the Tapo hub (Matter bridge) to my SmartThings hub until I angrily unplugged it and plugged it back in.
BTW: Here’s the support matrix:
If you only have that one sensor and the hub, I’d return it and get an Aqara W100 (Matter over Thread) or even an IKEA VINDSTYRKA (Zigbee). Tapo T315 + H100 (Matter over WiFi) is another alternative.
I’ve also seen where adding Matter devices did not work when the Wi-Fi network was supporting 2.4 and 5Ghz with the same SSID. When I connected to a 2.4Ghz only network, adding devices then succeeded.
So I turned the hub off and on and got a bit further then we had a 39-100 error which I need to google. Unfortunately, I need the Meross hub because the temp/humidity meter doesn’t seem to talk to any other hub. @h0ckeysk8er - will try settnig the WiFi to 2.4 GHz only and see if that makes a difference. And there’s me thinking this home automation stuff was easy …
Make sure that client separation is disabled and IPv6 is enabled on your router.
OK, back again … @h0ckeysk8er Have tried using only the 2.4 GHz band but that had no effect. @Andreas_Roedl client separation was already unchecked and I’m not sure how to set up IPv6 on my network - apparently I need to contact my ISP and TBH if IPv6 is necessary to run home automation then I might give it a miss …
You can test - https://test-ipv6.com/
You don’t need your ISP to support IPv6 and you don’t need a public IPv6 address, it’s just in the local network and usually you don’t need to do anything, not even having a DHCP server.
So don’t worry if the IPv6 test says you don’t have a public IPv6 address or your ISP doesn’t provide IPv6 connectivity.
The IPv6 test gives me this:
The set up for IPv6 on my LAN gives me this:
I have no idea what I need to enter for the Gateway IP. If I check the none
radio button then we go back to IPv4t
What mfg/model is your router? Also, what other options are there beside “Gateway Lite” in the Router drop-down?
It’s a Unifi Gateway Lite router (from Ubiquiti). The only other option is “Third party Gateway” which I don’t think would help as the whole of our LAN uses Unifi kit
Basically, it looks like they give you two options to address the LAN interface; set a static address or get the address from a Prefix Delegation. Since it seems your upstream provider isn’t supporting IPv6 yet, I’d suggest using a ULA (Unique Local) address. Here’s one you can try fd18:e3d8:12a6:1:: and use /64 as the netmask. Presumably, once you set the address, your router will start sending Router Advertisements and responding to Router Solicitations which will allow IPv6 devices to be addressed. You may also be given additional configuration options for IPv6 once you set the address.
Hi @h0ckeysk8er I tried entering the IPv6 details you sent and “applied” them to the network but it keeps reverting to IPv4. The Meross devices are on a separate VLAN (with the other IoT devices) so I suspect the IPv6 request is being over-written by the network.
Given that I can see some Meross devices (via the hub) in Smartthings but not the temperature/humidity sensor is it likely to be an IPv4/IPv6 issue?
Is the SmartThings hub in the same VLAN? Otherwise Matter won’t work.
Which ones? You only mentioned the smart plugs and those don’t use the Meross hub. In fact, if you used the account integration instead of Matter they’ll be connected through the cloud.
