Can SmartThings Wifi connect to another router (wired) to act as a Hub?

Excuse me as I am new to the Smart Things world. I’ve inherited some SmartThings wifi for a rental property.

My current situation:

  1. I have SmartThings wifi that acts as a hub to control my smart lock (Yale). The lock can only be controlled with ST. This is a requirement.
  2. ST wifi sucks (wifi 5), with occasional breakages that require a reset.
  3. I get internet from a modem and a wired connection to ST wifi.

My question:

Is it possible to get a new router (wifi7) to broadcast the wifi and have the ST wifi connected to it via a wired connection? If so, that fixes the faulty router issue I have with ST wifi and I have a new router with a stronger wifi signal.

In other words: modem > wired connection to new router > wired connection to ST wifi

Is there a better idea for what I am trying to do (better wifi signal and have ST for my smart devices)?

This is the Smart Things device I have: SmartThings Wifi | ET-WV525 | Samsung CA

In general it’s not possible to add a Wi-Fi router of one brand to a mesh setup from a different brand. So if you purchase a new Wi-Fi router that would create its own, separate Wi-Fi network. If you’re ok with that then your suggested setup should be fine.

It seems fairly common for owners of the ET-WV525 SmartThings mesh+ST hub devices to basically abandon their use as Wi-Fi routers.

You’ve probably also noticed that the ET-WV525 lags behind as far as firmware updates go.
