Both android wear and smartthings have IFTTT channels, so you can get some integration that way. The problem is the usual up to 15 minute polling delay. So that way is simple, but maybe not practical for most things.
There are a couple of community members who’ve already tackled the issue.
This one uses Tasker:
And this guy wrote his own android wear app called clever objects which you can get in the Google store.
@Tyler Thanks for that Info, but still it doesn’t make sense that an “Android wear” version of Smarthings is not released even after an year, whereas an apple watch version is released after just six months, coupled with the fact that at the moment (not including apple watches which are in shipping/pre-order) Android wear devices outnumber apple watch devices.
Again I am not trying to blame anyone, just disappointed that the platform which is already established and more in number is being ignored and relegated.
SmartThings can have multiple strategies, it’s not a one or the other situation.
The first gen of android wear didn’t really suit an app launcher scenario, a lot of android only developers waited for the new generation, which changes the whole app concept.
We’ll see more android wear apps over the next six months, I’m sure. Meanwhile, check out what the community has already done, you might find something you like there.
I already have my Moto 360 working with Tasker integration for my Smartthings, so its not personal for me.
About the “App concept” in android wear, nothing has changed except for the fact that the app launcher is more visible than before. Android wear has a fundamentally different approach to apps than apple watch, because Android wear apps are an extension of phone apps itself.I think this is the correct approach as smartwatches cannot live without the phones, and is more of a companion device.
But anyway, even if android wear was “app-centric” as apple watch, I highly doubt developers would jump into android wear, because most of them have little to no interest in the platform itself.
This isn’t true. Wink has had Android Wear support for almost a year. Wink also recently added Ok Google support. I have Wink setup as a Secondary Z-Wave controller on my network and the Android app, Android Wear support, and now OK Google support are light years ahead of SmartThings. Don’t get me wrong, I love SmartThings, but as far as the Android App goes, Wink is killing them in my opinion.
Anyway, as a Moto 360 owner please give some love to the Android Wear community SmartThings!
