Alpha Opportunity: Browser-Based Web Portal

I would love to help.

This would be excellent.

Add your votes here to help ST gauge the level of interest:

I’m also hoping at some point in future ST will migrate the new app to the same architecture/tech used by the browser app so it’s more responsive.

Please advise how more people can sign up since the original application form isn’t available.

I guess that being able to log in but seeing a completely empty page means I don’t have access :frowning:

I am very much looking forward to web control of my house! It is way overdue!

I’d like to sign-up too!

Well I should’ve been happy that I at least got this:

We’re still not taking new signups. When I said I’m trying to get it out to more people I meant I’m trying to get approval to allow more people in. Sorry for any confusion there.

Also, nothing new to report. Sorry for that too :frowning:

Who do we have to spam to get the word out?

I’m seeing some very cool add-on’s in the browser app such as the mobile presence sensor (no idea why the regular app doesn’t show them). It’s also rendering custom controls

A little frustrating considering the browser app has a limited audience and most of us are limping along with the mobile apps. Let’s hope the tech behind the browser app is heading to the mobile apps.

I don’t quite understand why this has been in a restricted state for over a year and a half and more people can’t get into the Alpha (or why this isn’t now a beta).

Now you are just teasing us without access… :exploding_head:

Personally I don’t use the portal because it offers less functionality than the mobile app, and I always have a mobile device with me, or a voice assistant close by, but regardless, here’s my perspective of the portal so far:

I’ve seen my mobile presence sensors there for a very long time, perhaps from the very beginning of release of the portal.

I’ve noticed some speed improvements, but there are still issues with device states and capabilities. I have several devices in the portal that are in an ā€œunknownā€ state, but the mobile app is fine. When you look at a device in the portal with an unknown state, most of the capabilities say ā€œundefinedā€, but again work fine in the mobile app.

The device tiles now look like they do in the new mobile app. I’m not sure when that changed, but there was a difference for quite some time.

You CAN NOT MOVE around Rooms in the Dashboard view, AND you can’t move around devices within a Room in the Dashboard view. This drives me crazy.

You CAN NOT MOVE devices around in a Room, even within the Rooms view, but you can drag and drop devices between Rooms and you can drag and drop devices to/from the Favorite section at the top of the Room. You still can’t arrange anything, which looks like it’s automatically sorted by device name, and if you put something in the Favorite section, it doesn’t show up in the same order in the Dashboard view as is does in the Room view.

Moving around Rooms in the Rooms view is very clunky. When you move a Room to where you think you want it, all the other Rooms around it shift in all directions based on the size of Room (I think). Arranging Rooms is a useless endeavor if you like any sense of order in your stuff.

The Automations ā€œtabā€ does not show Automations that you can see in the mobile app. All that’s there are Scenes (only to move around into your favorites that show up in your Dashboard), and Groovy SmartApps.

agree with these points. In its current state, the browser portal is not quite the savior many are looking for.

They should work on more devices integration instead of wasting time with that

Any updates on progress towards a wider release? Its a long time since the last update and all seems to have gone very quiet.
