Aqara devices were once exclusively supported by custom device handlers. The migration process has reached the phase where any devices still using custom handlers are being moved on a best available driver basis. Unless you had installed drivers anticipating this, the chances are that the best available driver for the devices was the Zigbee Thing in each case. This driver is just a placeholder so your devices can still exist.
You took the correct action to fix the problem. The idea was that you would have installed these drivers before the problem arose, but you may not have been aware of that.

I’d would like to use ZigBee Thing. That’s the default but it has stopped working for me.
How can I get it to work? Please let me know.
The Zigbee Thing driver is only used if you have a Zigbee device that does not work with SmartThings default set of drivers, and nor does it work with any drivers that you may have installed yourself. All it does is allow the device to be paired with your hub and make it visible it the app so you can assign it a driver that does work with it. It has no other functionality.

Thank you for clearing up the “mystery” for me.
Samsung Support sent me on a wild goose chase and didn’t say how I could resolve my issue. The last email I got from them asked me to check with ZigBee, which made no sense to me. As a layman, I just assumed that ZigBee is a method to connect my devices to the hub. Since I am able to connect to the hub, ZigBee can’t be broken. Am I right ?
Oh my. . . did help really tell you to contact Zigbee? You are putting us on right?

The best part is it lists them as the contact for support. Glad you were able to get better advice here!

This community has been great to a noob like me. I have enrolled and installed a few channels/drivers from the group. And learned more about troubleshooting. The developers are super kind and patient and many helped me when I ran into issues.
I just wanted to share so that other Aqara users, who may be like me, can find a solution when suddenly their devices stopped working due to the transition.
