Alexa cannot find/discover Smartthings/Aeotec hub (Solved)

Hi all

Found many related threads and solutions to this, though none of them are working yet.

Recently purchased an Aeotec Smart Home Hub, and regardless of what I try Alexa cannot discover the hub.

I’ve installed and removed the Smartthings skill multiple times. I’ve removed the link from Smartthings multiples times.

I’ve had the hub connected to the local network via both WiFi and ethernet.

Once setup, the hub appears entirely operational within the Smartthings app.

I’ve removed/deregistered historic, not currently connected Amazon Echo devices from Alexa.

I’ve removed the hub from Smartthings entirely and set it back up again.

I’m kinda at a loss here. Can anyone recommend any solutions to this issue please?

It has been awhile since I used the Alexa-SmartThings integration. As far as I know, the SmartThings hub itself does not appear in Alexa. Only devices connected directly to the hub or to the SmartThings platform will show in Alexa. Have you added any devices to the SmartThings platform at this point?

No joy.

Given the UI suggesting no connection between Alexa and the hub, I wouldn’t have expected this to work, but just did a full add of new device then setup between hub and Alexa - no visibility within Alexa of the Smartthings connected device.

Alexa doesn’t discover the hub. The Alexa/SmartThings integration is at the account level, not the hub level. Cloud to cloud from your SmartThings account to your Alexa account, and the integration works fine whether you have a SmartThings hub or not.

The SmartThings hub remains invisible to Alexa in the sense that it will never show up in the device list in the Alexa app, but it doesn’t need to.

All the individual end devices on your account, again whether you have a SmartThings hub or not, like light switches, sensors, and door locks will show up in Alexa once you complete the linkage between the two accounts.

Thank you folks for the assist.
I was unaware that the hub does not show, and there being a connect hub via smartthings option on Alexa just sent me down a pointless black hole of annoyance it seems.

The solve to my problem appears to have been somewhere on the account level and I’m still not quite sure how.

The Alexa account is under my wife’s Amazon account.
I was attempting to set up smartthings using an email address of mine.
After @jkp’s initial info I had her setup smartthings using her own name and email address (meaning the one she used for Amazon) however she used a different one.

Immediately once we did that and now understood not to expect a “successful finding hub” message, we found it all worked fine.

So, somehow somewhere there must be a link between the Amazon account and this other email address that we have now used for smartthings and it… Works?

No idea, but deffo in the future I’d aim to just use the same emails/accounts.

So, we canark this as solved and maybe it helps someone else. Thanks folks.

Do note that the ST->Alexa account linking is a one-one relationship. If you attempt to link two Alexa accounts to one ST account, one of them will stop working.
