Alert when door is open for X minutes?

New ST user here, but not new to home automation etc. I use SHM, with multiple recessed Z wave sensors, motions, sirens etc, as well as multiple switches, outlets etc.

When using Iris system, I had a couple of notifications that i really liked. Specifically, an alert when a door was left open for a set amount of time, say 10 minutes.

I see in automations that I can get an alert when a door opens…not what I want. I don’t want to be alerted every time it’s open, I want to know when it was forgotten open!

How can I do this?

If you were using the Classic app, you would have 3 choices…

  1. custom alerts in SHM
  2. webCoRE
  3. smartapp called Notify Me When

but alas, you are using STSC :slight_smile:

In the Classic app, create a custom rule, like this: (I have many of these rules)

Once you tap on Next, select “Text & Push Notifications” and then configure these how you want:

Thanks for the reply.

I haven’t figured out how to get my hub linked to the classic app. It asks for a code that the wifi hubs don’t have. Some have suggested that if the hub is linked to my account it should show up in both apps…it is but it doesn’t.

First, login as New to SmartThings on the Classic app. Second (if 1st option does not work), go to the More tab and at the top of the screen, check if there are two Home locations and choose the other one.

If you have access to RBoy Apps, use this SmartApp:

Under Door Open/Close actions you can enable to option to Notify you if the door is left open for X minutes (you can set individual times for each door or a one time for all doors).

It works with the STSC (new) and the Classic app. However you’ll need the Classic app to install the app initially since the STSC doesn’t support installation of custom apps as yet. Once installed it’ll show up under Automations in both apps.

I’m not an expert in this either, but you can search in the settings. You can probably configure it.

No, you can’t. :disappointed_relieved: It’s not part of the official features.
