Aeotec Energy meter Gen8

Dear all,

For a few months already I’m struggling to add Aeotec Energy meter Gen8 to Smartthings Energy plugin.

After contacting Aeotec team 2 weeks ago I received reply that integration to ST Energy should be finished soon. Last week I noticed, that new driver was automaticaly updated for Aeotec Gen 8 energy meter and now it is even not possible to select different driver in the app (only possible in the browser - advanced users).

Anyway, when I enter ST Energy now it says that new energy meter was detected, but when I press configure - page is blank. When I go back and enter ST Energy again - this message about new energy meter dissapears… device is still shown as unsupported. Maybe someone is using Gen8 energy meter and could test if you have the same issue or it is only in my region?

Thank you

Hi Arturas,

I have installed HEM8 just yesterday and we have exactly the same situation! It’s good to hear we aren’t the only ones with this problem. It is surprising to hear that the integration into Energy is only just being completed…

I also contacted to Aeotec today about this.

Someone from Aeotec replied that the HEM 8 might not work with the Energy service yet, as it requires a specific certificate. Apparently, they are working on it right now, but he couldn’t provide a timeline for when it will be ready. Hopefully soon!

However, he kindly added the fingerprint for the HEM 8 (3-clamp version) to the ‘Aeotec Home Energy Meter Gen5 3 Clamp’ driver, so now I can at least switch to that. The device now appears as a single device (previously four) and a link to the Energy service has appeared at the bottom of the device page.

Still, the device doesn’t show up in the Energy service’s list of supported or unsupported devices. It seems the service is trying to read the device somehow, as the total consumption shows 0 kWh on the home screen icon and in the map view. Previously, it showed the combined consumption of the connected devices.

I wonder why the Energy service identifies the device as both a smart meter and a device capable of measuring solar power production everytime when I try to reconnect it, but still won’t let me configure the measurement method?
