Aeotec door senors connected but not updating status (Solved)

Hey guys,

I just got some Aeotech Z-wave Recessed Door Gen 7 Sensors and got them hooked up to the hub (gen3 hub) with no problems and they all do the exact same thing. They initially show ‘open’ after setup and will instantly update to ‘closed’ when I close the door but will never update to an ‘open’ state again after that. I have factory reset all of them and reconnected them but to no avail. I brought them closer to the hub thinking it was a range issue too but no help.

It seems like I am missing something simple but I’m just not sure what. If anyone has had similar problems or has any advice I’d love to hear it and its also worth mentioning this is my first smartthings system so I am learning.

I contacted Aeotec Technical Support. I was able to fix the problem by following these steps:

  1. Login to your SmartThings IDE (https://graph.api.smartthings.com/)
  2. Click on “My Location” located at the top left of the page
  3. Select your gateway
  4. Click on “My Devices”
  5. Look for your DEVICE and click on it
  6. Click on Edit
  7. Change “Type” to “Z-Wave Door Window Sensor” which can be found in alphabetical order from the top.
  8. Then click on Save

This should apply the correct device handler to your unit. Hopefully, that helps anyone else having this problem.
