2018 - Current: Custom Graber Virtual Cord Z-wave+ Shades & Bali Autoview Z-wave+ Shades

@alphast0rm

The update should help a bit. But, one thing I would try is a full reset (press and hold the button on the motor for approx 20 secs. The light will go from flashing green > red > flashing red > no lights and the shade will jog twice during the process), then remove the power, and before you plug it in again, use Energizer Lithium ions only and power it on. Setup everything including the limits and check if it’s dieing again.

@ZebraBlinds I’ve done two full resets but they didn’t seem to help (once by myself initially, and then once when I called SWF). That was the only recommendation from the SWF rep I spoke to, but he had no idea about a firmware update unfortunately. I’ve already ordered a HomeSeer Z-Flash Z-Wave Firmware Update Kit and it’s getting delivered today.

@alphast0rm Did you do the step I mentioned with the Energizer Lithiums? basically make sure when resetting you are using energizer lithiums and as soon as the reset is done, unplug the power. Wait a few seconds, plug it back in and go from there.

@ZebraBlinds I just did another full reset following your instructions verbatim. Had to redo all my SmartThings automations  Won’t know if it’s dying for a couple of weeks. Could I please get the firmware upgrade in the interim anyways, I would really like do to the upgrade for all my shades regardless if possible. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Neil @ZebraBlinds

I have been having this problem (some shades in a group stalling using smartthings hub) since I bought the blinds in 2018. I came across this thread and was hoping to get the firmware upgrade to fix this. Can you please instruct me on how to upgrade?

Thanks!

Please PM me.

Discounts have been updated. Find more info here: 2018 - Current: Custom Graber Virtual Cord Z-wave+ Shades & Bali Autoview Z-wave+ Shades

Discounts updated. SmartThings coupon is still in effect, but, also:

USA

45% off all Graber Products (z-wave or non motorized) using this coupon Expires Mar 31, 2020
Coupon: VGQMXOIFRBGR
Does not stack with the SmartThings coupon. NOTE: Any orders placed with this coupon will go into a seperate manufacturing queue which has a longer lead time and varies between 4 - 12 weeks. Min value must be $500+

Canada

45% off all Graber Products (z-wave or non motorized) using this coupon Expires Mar 31, 2020
Coupon: R8TBS4CV1XQ8
Does not stack with the SmartThings coupon. NOTE: Any orders placed with this coupon will go into a seperate manufacturing queue which has a longer lead time and varies between 4 - 12 weeks. Min value must be $500+

Also forgot to add. Anyone considering large purchases for an entire home, can basically place this as multiple smaller orders. Basically anyone who uses the coupon can request the same discount again within 2 weeks as long as the requirements for it is met. Only downside is that the entire order would be grouped as one and lead times would be considered from the last order placed.

I also have the same question. I have my shades connected to ST hub, and now want to pair a Bali multi-channel remote. The manual says use “LEARN”, but all I get is a timeout. But it also says that you have to do "something in the ST app to add a new device, but only indicates to discover the specific operation for yourself. I have been unable to determine what ST device (in the IOS app) I need to add before I initiate the "LEARN"command on the multi-channel remote. I have tried window treatment, and generic Z-wave device, and a few others. What is the secret incantation to get the multi-channel remote to operate as a secondary controller with the Smartthings hub.

BTW – I also got Alexa to work as well, so I am just missing this capability (which I would really like to have for my wife, who is a novice at all of this).

Hey Neil @ZebraBlinds
I’ve been reading all these posts and spinning my wheels working on issues for nearly a year matching exactly whats described here and calling bali with no help only to find about this firmware issue. Is this something you can help me with? I can’t seem to PM you.

You need to add the remote to ST first so they are in the same network. You can just choose the blinds device and then go through the pairing process if you are using the new ST app.

I understand that I should pair the remote with the ST, but you have to select some type of device to pair! That’s where I am failing. I have tried multiple things, and it will not pair, so is there a specific option in the new IOS ST app that should be used? I did try using the window treatment device.

I don’t know if this will work but have you tried using the Scan button when adding?

At the point where the new STSC app is asking you to select a brand, look in the upper right…

I have tried that without success. I have also tried resetting the multi channel remote before I start that.

Well – I guess if you keep on trying, then it IS possible to make it work.

I finally got it to work. (I had tried the below many times, but this time it worked)

Here’s what I did.
BTW, when doing the first step (pairing to SmartThings) this I was about 5 feet from my SmartThings hub

First, I reset the multi-channel remote menu: ZWAVE -> Reset
Using the SmartThings IOS app (new)
Go and hit the ‘+’ to add a new device + -> Device
Tap the “Scan” in the upper right had corner
On the Multi-Channel Remote MENU/RIGHT -> LEARN
The SmartThings app showed the Z-Wave Remote
Then, from the Multi Channel remote go to MENU/RIGHT --> Shade -> FIND
It found both of my shades
Then go to MENU/RIGHT -> Channel and assign each shade to a channel (here I found that the channel and assignment got flipped from when I had previously use the remote to do the initial setup. I had read that the order that the Z-Wave protocol uses is the first shade found so the order can change)
After the assignment, I was able to then set limits and home for each of my two shades. Alexa continues to work, as well as control from the SmartThings app.

Good luck!

I forgot to add that the steps above are used AFTER pairing the shades with the ST app (new), to get the Bali multi-channel remote to work alongside the ST app, and Alexa (all three now work)

As I mentioned earlier, the device you would select in the new ST app is the blind. So you would search for Springs Window Fashions and just select the blind. The new ST app does not typically activate z-wave pairing unless a z-wave device is selected which is why it was that hard to get it to pair. Not sure why they did it this way compared to the classic app.

Hi Neil,

I am also not able to PM you. Maybe because my account is new? Do you have an email address I can use?

Pm’ed (10 char)

@ZebraBlinds – I’m really sorry to trouble you but we have also contacted our original distributor, Springs and Graber with no luck trying to get the 11.3 firmware version. We verified that our current version is 11.2 and have been having symptoms exactly matching the ones mentioned above. Any chance we could get this firmware version as well?
