2016 Samsung TVs no longer compatible?

Another quick update just to say that although it’s not possible to choose the OCF device type when adding the TV, it IS possible to edit the TV and then switch to it.

However the content of it is all over the place. With my lounge TV (which works) there is much more content and things are in different places. If only I could edit this, I think I’d be in with a chance.

@fido - what’s the device type in the IDE?

I may have to try this a little later as I need to get some work done!

Ok, couldn’t wait. Despite doing a factory reset before, this time it did the job. My experience was exactly the same as yours. Nothing detected and then there it was in ungrouped devices, exactly as it had been before.

Thanks Mike, we got there by some trial and error. Interestingly it seems as if we may also have found an unconventional way to power on the TV as well, although it would need a second device.

I think the 2016 tv ide creation is using some legacy code from the original backend, when the original app finally retires my guess is that trick will vanish, for now… I’m not touching anything

Newer TVs are also added as type “placeholder”. They don’t use the Groovy OCF type any more.

Sorry to be a pain @Brad_ST but any chance someone can re add my TV please ? I deliberately removed it from ST to see if I could find a way of re adding it that was not direct connection, just to help in case anyone came onto the forum with the issue

Unfortunately no matter what method I use 2016/17 tvs just don’t connect, not been a real issue as I have been using a broadlink IR emitter to shut down at midnight with an alexa automation but its starting to get annoying as there is one single IR code for on and off, at times we are switching the lounge on and the tv goes off and vice versa, in real world useage IR control is not always ideal

I know it was kindly re added before so any chance someone can add a placeholder to my Sammy Tv in the IDE, I really could do with the off option for my sanity

Would love to see this added as placeholder as well to be able to add to automations again. It so really sux that Samsung addith and then taketh away…

This isn’t something I’m aware of being doable. Do you remember who did this in the past or how?

Tbh Brad I thought you did it, I know you were involved with the classic integration, the tv is compatible as a few posts above show it, well if it wasn’t you Brad I will try a full reset of the Tv, just a pain having to remember every damn streaming app password

OK, well I deliberately removed my TV to find the answer on how to add a 2016/17 tv

Turns out a full reset does the trick, once signed in on the TV using a Lan connection the Tv has reappeared :upside_down_face:

I guess the answer was finally found

Assuming it is still a direct connected device?

No Troy, fully connected with full TV UI , not the pointless direct connection

On is available after extended period but not in an automation and only after I have cleared the big stupid box away that says the tv is not connected to the Internet and make sure I am using WiFi connection, must be some legacy code firing that as the warning box does not look like other ST network warning pop ups

Oddly, as Alexa auto picks up every device, on is available in an Alexa automation, it doesn’t work but is selectable

Just guessing here but the whole connection on off issues must have been related to MAC addresses and MAC router retentions, with different routers working differently on MAC retention I think the Tvs became too much of a headache to support

Maybe the answer would have been to create a fixed IP within a network for the Tv but 98% of users are not going to understand how or why

What is frustrating is WOL works fine, if there was a smartapp within ST that could be used, on would be achievable

This stupid box needs removing from the code

Same goes for Samsung Robot Vacs

My 2016 shows the same UI as yours, however it does show up under directly connected devices (cant change to a room). Just curious, what is your controller version? Mine is (2.CR06-1208). I can turn it on my clicking either mirror screen or view tv on phone and then flipping back to the control page but the power button will not turn it on

My tv now refuses to show in directly connected devices but I don’t care, it was a pointless integration with no control of anything and as you say, couldn’t even get added to a room let alone a routine

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! Beginning of the year I made the same mistake as everyone here. Accidentally removed the TV from a room and then boom. No longer able to use it. Only able to “directly connect to it” and that was the worst experience ever. Today I just decided to search again and I found this forum. I was so helpless before then I started to read and came across your comment. Thank youuuu it’s working again!!!

Mike just a heads up - Webcore can send a wake on lan to these TV’s and it works pretty well!

Webcore is definately an answer for WOL, I did try it once, got totally confused and decided to stick with ST automations only but as we all know, ON is not an option

Your more than welcome, glad it’s working again :+1:
