I am fixing up the lights in my rental property, which currently are half-LIFX and half-Lutron Caseta. I have struggled with LIFX for 9 years for them to respond reliably and am finally giving up. Based on my poor LIFX experience I am also shying away from any Wi-Fi-connected smart lights.
Last year I asked about Zigbee A19 color bulbs and am very satisfied with Innr A19 color bulbs in the common area. This time, I am on the hunt for Zigbee 3.0 or Matter-over-Thread color lights and remote switches in the US market:
- GU10
- 6" recessed can downlight (not canless)
- ceiling light fixture (semi-flush)
- full-size candelabra bulb (no base that obscures light shooting backwards), or replacement wall sconce
- intuitive remote wall switches/dimmers that don’t confuse people
It turns out that Innr advertises a GU10 bulb and a ceiling light fixture, but I have not found them in the US on Amazon or elsewhere. If I have to import them from Europe I will end up paying as much or more for them as Philips Hue products.
I also have not found an acceptable substitute for “intuitive remote wall switches/dimmers,” except for the Philips Hue Smart Dimmer Switch, which at $39.99 for a 2-pack at Costco is remarkably reasonably priced.
I found a MOES Zigbee Downlight but it’s $54.99 and even with an advertised 20% discount, I am thinking I may as well go for the Philips Hue 6" downlight since I have a much stronger hunch that it is going to “just work”.
Can anyone advise on non-A19 color Zigbee lights, and how well they work when paired directly with SmartThings (no other third-party hub)?
