Hi Ben, how about Smasung Smartcam integration with SmarThings?
May you tell me how to add this cams to trigger actions and interact with Smarthings?
Thanks in advance!!!
This is the camera we used at CES for the integrations.

I expect this integration to be publicly available soon. Checking with @thegibertchan
Yeah @ben is right.
Thatās the camera we used and will support in the coming months. This is beyond what our current mobile app and platform is capable of, so although we can try to integrate this now with the platformās current capability, I think youāll you be much more excited to see live video come through.
Weāre going to support a limited number of camera types in the beginning, but will work on standardizing this so that you can bring other cameras you may already have (given that they support our platformās capabilities). Itās too soon to talk details about this, but the camera integrations will go beyond just our certified cameras.
Goodness that thing is expensive. I run POE cameraās from HikVision at 3MP for $120ish when I buy them. Though the Samsung does look pretty nice from a physical aspect.
I must admit after seeing those cameras, I tend to be looking forward to the possibilities @gilbert was hinting atā¦
My local radio Shack (yes, some still exist) has these for 25% off.
Still trying to decide if they are worth it or if I should wait to see what other cameras are integrated, especially the netgear battery powered ones.
I may be a bit dense, but is the future live video functionality going to be on existing ST hardware and require an app/hub update, or will this require hub v2?
While weāll try to support as much improvements on our existing hub, some new functionality will require a hardware change, video is likely one of them.
@thegibertchan : Does SmartThings intend to release information about webcams anytime soon? I want to extend my webcams, but want to ensure its in a method that will eventually be supported⦠I donāt care to have auto-recording, as I record to a NAS, I just want to use the SmartThings app for live streaming.
Guysā¦Forget those overpricedā¦subscription based cameras. Blink is going to kill all of them just by the price point itself!
And they are going to release the API soon after the release. Did I tell you that they a truly wireless?
Wow. Thatās catching my attention⦠I will have to research it more. I use Hikvision for outside, but wouldnāt mind something like this for the interiorā¦
But there is a catch. regular use is just 5 hours per year and record time is between 5-10 seconds
This is actually pretty close to the type of device we had looked to create prior to the Samsung acquisition. Burst video recording, wireless (though ours would be ZigBee), battery operated, and cheap (sub $75). Iāll be watching this.
You guys should focus on ONVIF support
All cameras are moving in that direction
Thanks @ben. I have been chatting with the Blink creators and pushing them to provide the API ASAP.From what they have described and from what I read in the ActiOn dashboard integration would be great use case for SmartThings.
So, I suppose the SmartSense camera is no more?
It may still one day be a thing but it isnāt a high priority and would likely be built with Samsung.
Or in my case Blink.
Would you please have someone (at a high level) comment about the future of streaming? I simply want to know what integration methods are even being looked at. I.e. āWe are evaluating RTSP and MJPEGā so that most any camera can at least streamā¦" Or something like that? (Note Not even asking for a timeline⦠just to know that if I buy more webcams, there are good odds I will be able to stream through the SmartThings appā¦)
What about just allowing us to view and take snapshots of our existing dvr camera systems. Why is it that only the most expensive ip cameras are supported? for the price of 3 dropcams i can buy this system with 8 cameras then i wouldnāt need to pay for cloud based hosting of my videos. Would these types of systems be supported in the future?
Would it be possible to get a current priorities list? Maybe a top ten to-do list. Inquiring minds want to know. If itās not a trade secret that is. ![]()
