Using a Smart Things Hub to control Insteon switches?

Can anyone help me figure out if I can use my Insteon light switches with a smart things hub. I am looking at replacing my Insteon hub and going with a smart things hub due to my disappointment with Insteon. I want to keep my light switches due to the investment I already have.

Insteon has a proprietary technology and won’t directly talk to ST. Some people have connected their Insteon lights through a community device type, but the Insteon hub is still required. Maybe this thread will help:

I’ve taken the good work of others who created the Insteon device type, and modified it to support X10 devices connected over insteon. Currently I’ve implemented X10 switch and X10 Dimmer. Known gotchas: Insteon requires (at least) two HTTP requests to control an X10 device, one to set the address and the other to send the command. However if these are less than about 1/2 second apart then the hub ignores them! Did you find a way to make it work with the ST hub? I’m in the same boat. I’m looking to use the I/O Linc - Low Voltage Contact Closure Interface I have connected to my liftmaster swing gate controller and another one for my water shutoff valve.
