UPDATE: Recent SmartThings User Experience & Platform Performance

Please continue to submit tickets for new issues, don’t open up a new ticket eveytime it happens.

These are small cases. For instance my smart lights works 100% of the time without fail. Maybe I’m lucky? I’m not on any special server or anything either, lol.

Fantastic… After a morning where various lights didn’t turn off at sunrise and one of my Wemo outlets is again “offline” (already assigned them static IPs to my router), I just got an alert at some point in the past 30 minutes while reading that MSN article posted above and this thread…

Side door intrusion detected, Z-Wave Garage door intrusion detected. Looked at the app, and all of the supposed video clips from my camera were stuck on “Generating clip” and still remain that way… So I actually drove home and checked everything out. Not a peep.

Thank goodness they closed this issue because everything is fixed, lulz.

What?! Somebody besides Samsung ST broke something?! The horror! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I had the same thing happen with my Goodbye! routine this morning as well as an “Auto Arm” routine I have for sleepy time. The mode didn’t change and SHM didn’t arm. It seems like I’ve had mode change issues any time I have the SHM security app installed. If I get rid of that all my routines do are enable/disable camera switches, change mode, and in some cases send a push notification. At that point I basically have no issues at all.

That said, when things were really bad (right before this thread was created) I had removed SHM and installed SmartAlarm for the first time. But, the mode changes were failing left and right then and that made SmartAlarm even more annoying to use than SHM was. So I killed it too and have been without a “security system” until last night. If you can find my house, you can rob me blind now.

I did open a support case, but so far they haven’t given me anything useful, just asked if the routines run fine when I manually execute them, which they do like clockwork usually. Of course, I tried that tonight, so I’m not sure it is apples-to-apples since the hub was upgraded. I’ll give it another day or two but if it continues to not work, then bye-bye SHM again.

I was without ST security for about a month, I removed SHM-Security during the meltdown and miss it. I have a separate paid system, but it doesn’t have the instant visibility of ST. Tried SHM again a week ago and it was a bust.

Hybrid Security= SHM-Custom, Routines, Modes and Rule Machine:

Two days ago, with no indication SHM-Security will get fixed soon, I decided to make SHM-Custom rules for security, this was suggested by ST when they told everyone to remove SHM-Security that was having problems. I am also relying on Routines and modes, which I think have been reliable lately.

My SHM-Custom rules are set up as Armed Away Doors, Armed Away Motion, Armed Night Door, Armed Night Motion, since you can not mix sensor types in one rule. These are restricted by Only when mode is Night or Away. Rule Machine is used to trigger Good Morning and Good Night though my Minimote to set light dim/colors for indicators and trigger a Routine.

So far it has been rock solid. My Things start happening motion is working great for Good Morning! routine and no false alarms yet. I’ll let you know of it falls apart again.

This thread and the problems SmartThings had in the recent month are being reported by CNET and some other tech news:

This is not something I am happy to say but I do hope this will actually put some pressure on SmartThings/Samsung to actually dedicate enough ressources on fixing these issues…

Let’s try to be positive. With the 2 major updates yesterday it looks like ST is keeping their word on making this a great platform.

I have to say the last couple of days I have not had any issues. Improvements possibly!!!

I’m not ungrateful, but I am still disappointed. The V2 hub still fails to deliver on the promise of local processing which was a big deciding factor for me (and clearly, others).

It runs local just fine. I have 15 automations running local right now.

Does anybody know a one 800 number for Samsung so that I can get a SmartThings motion sensor replaced that is faulty?

Support@smartthings.com has always worked for me. They RMA’d a broken presence sensor. I had a replacement in 48hrs.

Same here.

They have replaced two devices for me. No complaints from me about their service.

The number doesn’t matter, the bottom line is that only light applications run local despite the fact that locks and thermostats qualify as local devices. I hope we will see Smart Locking or Smart Climate Controling or just Smart Rule Machine in the future…

Can we get an update on the next steps to completely resolve the SHM issues? The status page says everything is all good now, yet I’ve had two occurrences this weekend where SHM was not disarmed. Logs show “Security system is disarmed” yet SHM still detects an intrusion alert. I’m a bit worried that since the system is not in complete meltdown mode that the pressure and visibility of the issue is now off and that “All Systems Operational” means we’re going to continue to limp along.

It’s limping along even if they fix that. Still, after 4 months - won’t trigger sirens.

The fact that ST says “ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL” despite them acknowledging the known issue… is what kills my confidence. Their position is simply not factual and flys in the face of logic and facts.

Yeah I agree. I am glad CNET is finally publishing something about the problems we have all had this last month or so. It was only a matter of time. Their article talking about their experimental smart home using SmartThings is what led me to buy it. Worked flawlessly for two weeks and then all of this happened. Like you say, hopefully this will be a little extra push for them to speed up progress on fixing the SHM issues once and for all.
