Upcoming Visual Updates

Ideally we should be able to create as many “Shortcuts” (soft-links) to a Thing as desired (yes… I’ve said this a dozen times before); and each Shortcut could live in a different Group/Room, and each Shortcut could have a different Displayed Attribute if it is a multi-Attribute (multi-Capability) Thing.

Thus, I could have 4-Shortcuts for a SmartThings Multi-Sense: open/close, motion, orientation, temperature all the same Group/Room, or even more Shortcuts if I wanted to create a Room with all my Temperature sensors in it.

Oh well… SmartTiles already does this. A Tile is created for each Capability of a Thing, and a Thing Capability Tile can be put on multiple Dashboards. (And we’re going further for along this paradigm in V6).

Really would support the idea of using the notification area better. Like showing security status and mode. And may be even an option to add a switch . Just the one which is critical to be switched on.

I vote for better widgets on android. Maybe some to toggle switches ect…

Why waste valuable effort when we have SharpTools!!!

Yeah Sharptools does ok but it’s not visually appealing design language wise for android.I love the way it works with Sharptools but a native way would be better.

@david.mccrindle

A little feed back and a request.

  1. The Font for the names of rooms ect. should be one or two sizes larger, but don,t increase the line size.
  2. In the Recently page some of the things have a gray back ground, and there is a gray text you can’t read.

PLEASE make a space on the Smart Home Monitor and add a locks and lights the same as Smoke detector. This is my most requested add for the app.

David these are great changes, I’m excited. Do you know if these two items were addressed in this update:

  • When on a dimmer device that is at 100%, it is hard to dim the device and not pull the hamburger menu when you slide the dimmer control to the left on an iOS device (See below).

  • The Smartthings Outlet device at one time displayed power at the bottom left. During the last update that was removed.

Thanks for the update and keeping us informed.

My dashboard didn’t seem to change. Broken like it has been for a long time but didn’t change after the update. I’m on v1

@david.mccrindle: For the most part, I like what I’m seeing here in the 2.1.2/2.1.3 Android update. Just one suggestion…
Can you please pick a standard behavior for font rendering, and then document it? Every version brings new quirks, requiring me to adjust things in the DTH. In previous 2.x versions, if text rendered too large, you could pad the lable with spaces (e.g., change label:'text' to label:' text '. Now however, that doesn’t work. Also, sometimes you do case conversion, sometimes not; sometimes you increase font weight, sometimes not. Compare the before/after renderings of my Nest thermostat, below. The first screenshot was taken from 2.1.1, the second from 2.1.3. It’s actually less visually appealing now, as the weight/case are even more jumbled than before.

Also, DTH Value Tiles render smaller text, and Standard Tiles seem to have a hard-coded line feed ("\n") preceding the label text (except on 1x1 tiles). This causes the text to render lower in the round icon, thus exacerbating the long-standing scaling/truncation issue.

Something broke in this update for Android. My widget on my phone home screen is now totally broken :frowning: Just “Error retrieving phrases” permanently now even if I open the ST app and try a refresh - that used to work. I know it’s a Marshmallow thing as all was fine until I upgraded last week.

Did you try removing and then re-adding the widget?

Yes, no change. I have 2.1.3 loaded but the widget it now dead. It just quickly flashes if I hit refresh and nothing else. I will officially do the ST support thing so they are aware.

Add to 2.1.2 issue post then…

Is anyone else getting this error when launching the ST iOS app?

I’ve been getting this error for over a month now and ST support has not been able to resolve this issue.

@Automatic00 - yep. Same here. Usually when some siren is going off because of SHM going nuts and I’m trying to get it turned off!

Mine came back with the latest release:

My activity feed is blank after the app update? I do see some activity logged like it’s real time, but no history. Makes it hard to see what happened if your troubleshooting issues.

Ha, did you notice the outlet is “happy” when it’s on and green, and sad when it’s off and grey?

I have this same issue. It does not seem to be keeping like 3-4 entries under activity feed.

Yes, that’s what mine does. It usually is just blank. Every once in a while I’ll catch something on it.
