Not sure why the inconsistent behavior but keep in mind I don’t mean refresh the webpage… when you get to your smart apps and click “Update” to the right of the timed event… when you go back into the details it WILL read the same as it did before. In the top right corner of that window (next to the X) you will see “Refresh”. This is what I was referring to.
The most simple of actions, “TURN OFF THE LIGHT” is no longer working at scheduled times. I’ve had a lot of recent issues with power allowance and then “turn off” aspects of SmartThings since the latest update.
Well I have officially found a way to make my ST scheduled events trigger. I simply setup repetitive reminders in my smartphone then toggle to the ST app and run the routines…works like a champ! Don’t you just LOVE modern technology, when will someone think of using a smartphone for a flashlight?? Have a lovely day everyone!!
yes I know I did both multiple times… and as I said even reopend in a different browser… ie to chrome
Pppppfffft… No big deal
Just imagine the day when you can actually take a photo with your smart phone.
I have a virtual button setup and IFTTT event scheduled but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to initiate a routine based on the virtual button. There is no option for a button initiation. Thoughts?
If you dont have a custom app… no problem… Use Smart Lighting.
New Lighting…
select the light to turn on (not the virtual)
select on or off
select trigger… Use Switch option
Select the switch – the virtual one you created. Also select turn it off option (for the VD only)
you are on your own from here
In IFTTT create a recipe to turn on the virtual device. When IFTTT turns on the VD your other light will turn on
Only issue is I dont use it for lighting. The Morning routine turns up thermostat and turns off security system. There are lots of options for turning on morning routine based on doors being opened or motion but no switch options
Is there a way to poll, or create a rule to automate this? The past month I’ve had to update the links on various items almost every other day. It’s always the time based items. Once it fails to run, the next scheduled date doesn’t change until I login and update them.
piling on. same thing. been that way for 2 years with this system. I have contact support more than once. Always the same response of update it manually. Sad. I also setup IFTTT for my time based as a “backup.” Sad sad sad.
SmartThings: proving over and over again that yes, things can get worse.
Failing schedules I could live with (thanks to IFTTT) but now even the “Lights off after minutes” or “Lock door after…” are failing. The latter is the worst. We have gotten so used to the door locking automatically after minutes we dont even think about it. Then in the morning we find the door has been unlocked all night. The smartapp “Remind to Lock” log shows a scheduled event in the past. I update the app and it works for maybe a day or two then fails Totally unreliable…
This is exactly why I have not added locks to my system. Seemed too risky 2 years ago. Still seems to be too risky.
Well it had been working fine for well over a year. Never any failure. The ST scheduling problems have gotten worst and worst each day/week/month that it finally caught up to this app and any other app that uses any form, however slight, of scheduling… Sad but true
This is my never fail backup plan. So easy to start a Tasker Profile to issue Timed ST Routine. Your Android phone must be ON with an Internet connection however. I can turn the Tasker Profile ON & OFF as desired. This bails me out if ST fails to fire Good Night or Good Morning.
I once had all my cloud dependent time based events failing, and found that my hub was not properly pointing to my geographical location. When I logged into the web portal and went to > My Locations, the postal code field was registering all zeros (ie, 00000). So you may want to check that if anyone is experiencing this kind of failure.
The solution was to delete all my apps, exclude all my devices, delete my location, reset my hub to factory defaults, and set up my entire network again as described in these instructions
Took a Saturday afternoon, but it fixed the issue …
Use the smartapp (in the market under smartapps-switches and lighting-switch activates home phrase)
This is the worst reliability that I have seen from SmartThings in a long time. The only time that compares is prior to the Cassandra migration over a year ago. The kicker to me is that support says there is no ETA on a fix. A core part of your system is broken and you have no ETA on a fix?!
I can’t wait until they have some serious competition.
Why is it surprising? What it means is they either don’t have a solid root cause (other than vague “scalability issues”) or they have no way of fixing it without tearing everything down. Last year they pinned their hopes on Cassandra, but apparently that didn’t quite work out. What I see lately is a bunch of band-aids, like adding more DB clusters, implementing “update feature” in the IDE, which don’t really fix anything other than the symptoms. I’m sure everyone is busy working on more band-aid solutions, but I doubt they can fix the root cause easily.
Which just goes to show that they don’t have the right people working on the root cause.
