Thread mesh optimisation

Fairly new to using thread with SmartThings, I have loads of zigbee devices.

I now have 7 Nanoleaf essentials e27 bulbs in my house.
One of my most recent additions was to add a Nanoleaf e27 bulb to the bedroom.
My SmartThings hub is upstairs in the house and the bedroom bulb isn’t the furthest from it.
Yet the bulb in the bedroom keeps going offline for periods.
Tonight I added another Nanoleaf bulb to the landing/hall just outside the bedroom, in the hope that it would strengthen the mesh and stop the bedroom bulb going offline. It hasn’t. I’ve even tried replacing the bulb with a different (identical model) bulb but it’s made no difference.
Looking at the thread network in the Nanoleaf bulb it shows a downstairs bulb as leader and all others as mesh extender. Before I added the bulb to the landing tonight the bedroom bulb showed as child.
All bulbs are updated to latest firmware using Nanoleaf app.

Is there any way to optimise the thread network.i could power down the hub for a while but I that’s something I’d rather avoid, its been a bit flaky of late.

This is a good article on optimizing a matter over thread network.

Thanks JD, appreciated. Do you know if the pending hub update dads matter 1.4 ? I wonder will that improve matters?

56.9 adds the Matter 1.4 SDK and Matter 1.4 device type support

Cheers, I checked my 2.4ghz WiFi channels which is currently on channel 1 so should not overlap with the thread network channel of 24.

I also only have one TBR, which is SmartThings, so nothing to optimise there either.

All of my lights are Nanoleaf M/T bulbs and strips and I think what makes my Thread network rock solid are the Eve Energy plugs that I have in every room.

I’m using smart plugs less and less now, however I looked at the eve plugs and they are £40 each, compared to my most recently bought ikea Trektat at £6 that’s more that 6 times the price!

Are you sure?

Many smart speaker models, including Apple HomePods, several Google Home models, and several echo models are all Thread border routers. Also some WiFi routers, some LG small appliances including their newest smart microwave, a couple of Aqara cameras, one of the Tado thermostats, lots of Samsung devices now including soundbars and some televisions. Even one of the Eve smart plugs and several Nanoleaf lights.

I’m not saying you don’t have only one thread board router, but these days it is more common to have additional ones and maybe not even know it. :man_shrugging:t2:

Fairly certain.
I have 7 echo dots, none with tbr. A Samsung smart family hub fridge freezer, which doesn’t have a tbr, although it might be possible to add with a dongle. Sonos one speakers without tbr but with Alexa. I also have an isp hub from Vodafone which doesn’t have tbr either. And a Samsung qled tv without tbr too.

Update: my hub has been updated to version 056.00009 but the issue of the Nanoleaf thread bulb going offline and online still remains unfortunately. I had vaguely hoped the hub update and move to matter 1.4 would resolve the issue but it seems to have made no difference.
Even though the bulb in question is within about 15 feet of another thread bulb it doesn’t seem to be able to hold onto the thread signal reliably.
