Text-to-Speech is back!

I found this same thing and implemented a poll into BigTalker 1.1.4-Beta branch to poll musicPlayer devices (Sonos) every minute to speed up detection time of playing / stopped tracks.

Yup, the pollster did the trick. With 1 minute refresh on the Sonos, It restarts the previous song again. Good to know that Big Talker has this built in.

Am I doing it wrong? I want messages to resume music only if the music was actually playing at the time of the notification. Every smartapp I have tried (BigTalker, Obything, Rule Machine) resumes music that was previously paused.

I am using Obything Manager to push messaged to airplay connected speakers.

I promise, I have searched. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

And, who doesnā€™t want Tony Starkā€™s Jarvis accent for a ā€œWelcome home, sirā€ message?!

i was able to get it to work on one of my Sonos, but it seemed to bog down the hub after it fired off the weather forecast or custom message. The use of the app for turning on lights or even by motion seemed not to work. After 20 to 30 minutes all the lights would suddenly begin to flicker as if it seemed like the hub was catching up. I did have 5 Sonos devices connected in the Sonos lab at the time which I think is the culprit. I read somewhere that because of Sonos api issues, no more than 2 Sonos devices can be connected at one time. Not sure if thatā€™s true but I submitted a ticket to support. Any one else experiencing this?

Iā€™ve absolutely encountered this. It happened with a firmware update back in Nov '15 IIRC.

I managed to get a Sonos Weather announcement on my Samsung Speaker working yesterday , it was set up for the same time , Monday to Friday but it didnā€™t work today ā€¦ Iā€™ve no idea what changed in the meantime >?

Nothing Changed, welcome to ST unreliability, i guarantee if you go into the app and edit the alarm but dont change anything and click done/done it will work again tomorrow and maybe if your lucky a day after that and then you need to do the same all over again ST scheduling is pants. i figure if i could get a fart sensor i could trigger the alarm more reliably when i fart in the morning. ST seems to be more reliable when the event is sensor driven not time driven. also if your alar is for say 6am then choose the times 05:58, 05:59, 06:02, 06:02 this seems to make it more reliable

I got the email stating this was fixed I setup my TTS notifications and tried out the weather, then nothing. Isnā€™t working on my end. Emailed support but no reply.

Hello allā€¦ I was hoping for a bit of advice. I have a Samsung Radiant 360 R7 speaker. The speaker is supported by SmartThings and I am using the supported SamsungAudio device Type. I have successfully connected it to my WiFi and can play music via my Samsung iPhone app. That part works fine. I have also connected it to SmartThings and the speaker was discovered and it now appears as a Thing in one of the rooms I created. I have the Speaker Notify with Soud SmartApp and created several notifications to try out th Text to Speech feature - all with no success. Iā€™ve asked it to play the weather at a specific time, say a phrase when a z-wave switch is turned on/off and even when Iā€™m moving in front of my SmartThings motion detector. Nothing seems to work. However, it is interesting that I can go into the tile for the speaker and press play and Iā€™ll hear the song that I last set up on Pandora using the Samsung speaker app. So some part of the speaker is ā€œworkingā€ with SmartThings. However, I canā€™t get SmartThings to do anything else with the speaker. What am I missing? :confounded:

You rock! After finding the exact latitude/longitude of the local weatherstations in the Netherlands on wunderground.com it works great. Only degrees are in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius but i can live with that.

Is text to speech supported by the V1 hub?

Yes

Can TTS be in another language?

At the moment no. On the books for a future enhancement.

How about external TTS engine?

Thanks

Any way to insert a ā€œpauseā€ into the textToSpeech() request? My devices audio driver takes a second to ā€œwarm upā€ which is cutting off the first word that it is outputting. I tried padding it with spaces, periods, and some other characters, but that does not seem to be working. Iā€™m wondering if the TTS system has the built in capability to do this. If you donā€™t know the answer, pointing me to documentation for the service would be greatly appreciated.

Try inserting a few commas before what it is you want it to say.

I havenā€™t tried commas yet. I will give that a shot.

Are there parameters like Big Talker?

I want to check off a ton, but I have to then choose custom message. I donā€™t want 50 of these apps unless Iā€™m missing something.
