Hi,
I bought a Tapo L530 smart bulb thinking that all the Tapo bulbs were supported by SmartThings. I managed to link it to my account but no device is added.
Does anyone know if this specific model is indeed not supported and if there are any workarounds?
As far as I know, so far in Europe TP-Link Tapo devices are not compatible with smartthing, only TP-Link Kasa Smart devices with official integration were compatible. I used bulbs Kasa LB100 series and work fine in samrtthing.
You can try to link the light bulb with the TP-Link Kasa smart App instead of with the Tapo app and if you succeed, it may then link to smartthings
Other bulbs that are compatible are Meross, with viculated service like Tp-Link, they work very well, I like them better, and they are compatible with Homekit, if you use IOS
None of a the Tapo devices supported. Only Kasa has an official integration.
Home Assistant has custom components for Tapo switches and bulbs but all based on reverse engineering. (Actually they are controlled locally.)
As I can recall you can connect them to Amazon Alexa and Google Home. If you do use Alexa, then you can do the virtual switch magic with Alexa routines, if it is still working. @JDRoberts can give a hint where is the detailed description how to set them up.
Using the Alexa routines works well when it’s working, but for about a year it has been glitchy so sometimes it stops working for a few days or even a few weeks at a time. If that possibility is OK with you, here’s the community FAQ on how to set it up:
After support implying I was lying I eventually got this
“Just got confirmation from our HQ team that there are plans to support Smartthings in future but the exact product and timeframe is not known yet. We are still in testing phase. The products that support it will be rolled out step by step. You are requested to keep your tabs on our official website page and social media platforms for latest updates.”
The p100 plugs have just been made compatible. Hopefully this means more to come
