Dang, i was really hoping youd go the ratgdo route lol. I ordered one for myself. The thought of it being completely local had me sold.
At the time of this posting, matter does not include garage door openers. They will probably be added next year. And after that, we should start to see some pretty simple out of the box matter integrations, possibly for a Meross model, but no telling exactly what, or when yet. But I do expect to see more local options available by 2025. Iām not saying anyone should wait until then, just that the long-term trajectory looks pretty good.
Something to add, although installing the physical wires to the door sensors with Meross is annoying, itās actually one of one of the reasons I choose Meross. I do have zigbee smartthings contact sensors on my garage doors, but ocassional they do drop out or get āstuckā. In such a case, I believe a zigbee or zwave type GDO solution that relies on those sensors might unintentionally trigger the garage to open because the smartthings door sensor is reporting inaccurate state, or disconnected.
With Meross hardwired door sensor, I felt it less likely that this could happen because the sensor is hardwired. Yes I suppose the entire device could come off the network as it is wifi, but in that case atleast itās not triggering open or close actions.
Just my two cents.
Not sure why, but Iāll consider myself lucky. My Pi running MyQ still hasnāt been booted from connecting?? I just looked at the logs after reading all the updates posted in the forum.
Iām sure it will get kicked eventually but just an FYI somehow some people are still working. I canāt be the only one?
i was in the same boat till last night lol. What is ur polling set to? just curious.
My PI has been working great for about 3 weeks and today it STB. I will turn it off for a few days and see what happens. In the meantime I setup a virtual switch in ST that is fired from Google Assistant that will fire an IFTTT routine to at least close the garage. Unfortunately, IFTTT doesnāt offer the open action for MyQ at this time.
I just ordered Meross, I will see how to it functions. Hope you are able to do something with it the future. It goes without saying! the ENTIRE ST community appreciates all your hard work creating maintaining My!Q edge driver.
I would look into a Zooz ZEN17 z-wave relay coupled with a Z-wave door tilt sensor as an alternative cloudless solution. Zooz provides pretty good info and support on this.
Ecolink makes a good garage door tilt sensor you can install. Integrate the 2 devices using the smart home hub/system of your choice.
One thing to note is that you need to make sure your garage door opener (GDO) is capable of being triggered by a momentary switch somehow. Test this out before buying anything by bridging the contacts, either in your wired GDO switch or at the GDO itself, using a wire to see if you can trigger the door to open/close.
If the momentary switch override doesnāt work which is the case with modern security locked systems, people have wired up a smart relay to a working GDO remote control also as a solution since the remote control handles all the communication protocols. I think that Meross is doing this as a workaround as well with their included āaccessoryā.
Just to note: for those without a ST hub and those with hubs that do not have z-wave - you may not want to look at Zooz as an alternative.
FYI, home assistant Is pulling the MyQ integration Removal of MyQ integration - Home Assistant
I just looked itās set to 40.
Luckily, I just looked at it seems to still be functioning.
Looks like I am shifting to Konnected
Appears not to be an option for relatively recent vintage Chamberlain openers
I just shared in another thread - this may be a helpful reference for which openers a relay can be wired directly into and which may require an alternate approach.
An interesting article on The Verge about MyQ and āunauthorized accessā to its APIās and breaking smart home integrations.
FYI, my brbeaird MyQ-Controller is still connected and working, but I see the end is near.
Thank you so much for the app.
I have a Liftmaster gate (LA500) and looking for a simple Wifi/Zwave/HK enabled solution that can trigger equivalent of a single-button-push signal. I donāt need sensors. Just want to be able to open or close the gate remotely. Does anyone make a simple universal garage door remote (wireless) that can work with HA/Smartthings/Alexa without any sensors?
Thanks for all the work over the years and your work. My app went offline sometime during the night.
Any chance you whip up a tutorial of some kind if you get it to work? i have a ratgdo on order as well and cant seem to find a solution to get it on st :(.
