SmartTiles Dashboard v5.7: Release March 2, 2016

agree, but in the end both nest and chamberlain are biting themselves in the ass here.

With ST, I can do more with my STUIPD garage door, and my STUPID ZigBee thermostat…

So why the hell would I purchase a smart device whos manufactures have pre decided the risk matrix on my behalf…
I won’t, that’s the answer…

What the hell is this country coming to?, I purchased a few HDMI cables, the plastic bags they came in were all of 3x6 inches…

Each one had a warning sticker on it half the size of the bag:
WARNING suffocation hazard
WTH… seriously?

There needs to be two classes of consumer products:
Approved for Fu@#&ng MORONS

And normal stuff, suitable for those with an IQ something north of 100…

Sorry to jack your thread man, this kind of thing just pisses me off…

I agree with your sentiment and anger; but I think the lawyers, legislators (building codes – heavily influenced by trade unions), and consumer protection agencies are also to blame (considering those agencies do nothing for major areas I’m concerned about like misleading pre-sales on Kickstarter and IndieGogo).

Hmph… need a whole new Topic thread for this!

How would I try to achieve these things with smarttiles if they are even possible?

  1. I went the bulb route and have two kitchen fixtures(one with two, one with three) multiple bulbs. It would be nice if I could have one button in smarttiles to turn each fixture on/off instead of 5 switches.

  2. I have a mounted tablet as control is there a way to have a tile that would go to prime music app or Pandora?

Thanks

Quick Answers, maybe someone will fill in more details:

  1. Use an existing Switch or Virtual Switch with any SmartApp that can trigger multiple lights (Big Switch? Rule Machine? … maybe Smart Lighting – haven’t checked).

  2. If there’s an “Android App Intent” set by the App, then you might be able to use a Link Tile that has a URL of the correct form (something like “pandora://”) and/or I think some Apps can automatically intercept their own URLs from the browser (i.e., “http://m.pandora.com/…” will automatically redirect to the App, perhaps?

These are both Frequently Asked Questions, so I hope we can come up with solid answers that I’ll post on our website under FAQ.

So using option 2 with just http://www.pandora.com will work. It does flash the webpage then goes to the app. Couldn’t get the first way to work would be nice to go right to the app. If I put pandora:// in my iPad browser it auto asks to open Pandora app though.

I saw that a routines tile is on the wish list… without this we would have to change mode and set smart home monitor separately correct? (just wondering if there is another way that I missed).

Mike, if I remember correctly, “garage door controller” is a fairly new capability. That’s why it has a low adoption rate.

People usually use momentary button and contact sensor combo. Do you know if there is a SA that would emulate a “garage door controller” by binding the two devices?

I think they will end up with capability “MyQ Garage Opener” (and “Nest Thermostat”) that will be a special class of DTH that would not be available to common SA, the devices would only be compatible with ST approved apps.

You know, one also should not dry children and animals in a microwave. And hot water is hot!

Well you do have a bit of a point there…
A quick check returned nothing, however I’m bored at the moment, and can think of no better reason to take the SA I wrote and extend it to work with a multitude of device selections, and present a nice virtual device to interact with…

SmartTiles already supplies the “Routine Tile”, but it triggers a pop-up listing all your available Routines. That should be sufficient at the moment to link to a Routine that changes mode and sets SHM (if you can do that in a regular SmartThings Routine).

We want to offer “single Routine Tiles” so that you get: (a) one click execution without needing a virtual momentary button, and (b) can put specific routines on specific dashboards, thus having access control limited to specific routines – e.g., a child in the family may have his own “Good Night Joey” Routine Tile that dims his lights, closes the blinds, turns on night light, etc…

iOS Smartthings App v2.1.3 (1265)
SmartTiles (Connect) v5.7.0-NA01+006 installed

This morning I had all 5 dashboards configured. I decided to repurpose dashboard 5. I removed dashboard 5. Now, I am not able to reconfigure dashboard 5. I am able to edit and reconfigure the other 4 dashboards. All I get when I attempt to setup dashboard 5 is the dark square with the spinning progress marks. Nothing happens and the logs don’t show an error:

Thank you for any help you may offer!

Yep, I’ve been getting the same thing the last few days. Can’t create any new dashboards.

Sorry about this problem… We’ve had several reports now that I have to declare this to be a “known issue / bug” and will update our website shortly.

This is somehow a problem that relates to SmartTiles being “published” a couple weeks ago and perhaps other security tweaks that SmartThings has done or is doing…

  1. If you need a quick solution, you can install “SmartTiles (Connect)” again from http://SmartTiles.click/install

Secret: You might not need to uninstall first!

If your current version (of the child dashboards) is “+006” then you will likely get a second instance of “SmartTiles (Connect)” installed with own 5 child dashboards (version “+002”).

  1. OR… If you have a bit of time to debug, please send me an email to: Support@SmartTiles.click and I’ll give you a few further instructions. We may try to engage @slagle or @jody.albritton. You can also try to collect some live logging in a separate browser while getting the error behavior you describe.

Stay tuned for more information as we figure this out. Thanks!

@tgauchat Is there a way I can have different tiles appearing if I am am in a different mode (away, night, home).

No… But that’s a great feature idea for SmartTiles V6. I think we’ve had a similar request a while ago.

It’s really just the idea of “automatically” triggering a different dashboard based on some event or mode; something that won’t be a technical problem at all in the new design; just not sure what the user interface to configure it should look like. @625alex will think about it.

Cool, when could I expect v6 to be here?
What I wanted to do is to have a pin code to desactivate the alarm but only have it appear when the alarm is on. It works using the smartpins app, however it is useless having the keypad always appearing.

Can’t wait for v6

The future is still a bit too cloudy for us to predict V6 release date; though it is definitely getting closer – we have not run into major roadblocks except time and money!

I think @625alex is thinking of figuring out a way to possibly do at least a simple PIN proof-of-concept for V5 in the meantime.

I found a question from Oct 15 about changing hue bulb color from within SmartTiles, is still in the works?

I don’t see this feature making it into SmartTiles V5, but it is implemented in V6 already. Stay tuned.
