are you getting “not authorized to perform the requested operation” when you try to add one?
Actually, nothing seems to happen. I select either one and i get a quick spin indicator, then nothing…
@Cino and @suprdave04…
We hate to say this, but if you have not Installed recently then the most likely fix at this time is to fully uninstall/remove “SmartTiles (Connect)” and reinstall from the website. Unfortunately this means you lose current defined dashboards.
If you still have problems after this, then we really want to dig deeper; but so far this is fixing the issue you describe. (It likely has to do with our conversion to a “published” SmartApp.)
thanks ill give that a try
Got it. I’ll try that as well. I needed to adjust all my dashboards anyway to reflect some new additions.
Thanks
If you can, remember to save any custom CSS in notepad or other text app, before uninstalling.
@tgauchat, actually adding an option on CSS webpage to “Save/Export” the CSS code as a text file may be a helpful tool, especially if modifying CSS code on a laptop/desktop.
That was the trick, seems to be all good now. Thanks for the info.
Good idea… Though actually you can just use the “Save As…” or “Save Webpage” function that is available on most browsers’ menus, right?
We’re going to emphasize the convenience of editing CSS using your desktop browser; @625alex is working on an idea to make it more easily accessible directly while viewing the Dashboard without manually setting the URL to /css
.
My cheat for this is to use one of the web link tiles and right click open in new tab. Well at least on my main dashboard to test any mods people post that look interesting.
@tgauchat garage door controller?, no capability.garageDoorControl?
Not yet. I think folks use a Contact Sensor Tile + Switch or Virtual Switch? A search of the SmartTiles threads should come up with a few hits…
dude, I know I can hack it in, was looking for a dedicated icon set and capability…
@tgauchat So here’s a thought, if you’re able to support the imageDataJpeg
attribute then SmartTiles could show a stop image camera feed from any DH that supports that attribute without having to resort to JPEG image streams which is the current limitation for SmartTiles. (current the following DH’s support it, Foscam, Blink and Amcrest and pretty sure I or some folks could whip up the HI3510 and Dlink to get it upto speed on this capability).
So essentially you can add a lot of more cameras live “video” capability to SmartTile by just configuring it to take a picture every 5/10 seconds or so and show up as stop image feed. Question is are you willing to partake in a custom attribute now the potentially 5 DH’s (30+ cameras models) are supporting it?
Yup… Understood. Please be assured this is an acknowledged Feature Request. Thanks!
What would help tremendously in making this decision is to know the number of Customers actively using standard Capabilities and specific custom DTHs.
This is data the we know SmartThings has, but doesn’t share with Community Developers (yet). We need to remind @slagle and @jody.albritton of how valuable this data would be (for many, many reasons).
PS: I fear that SmartThings Cloud could be negatively impacted by frequent use of the snapshot capture method though. Sure, it’s not as frequent as some event types, but heavier weight.
So I’m guessing that I’m the only person to actually have implemented that capability in a garage door controller?
Not a big deal, first time install today, was just a bit supprised…

Honestly, garage door control has been requested quite a lot, now that I search “SmartTiles garage”.
I’m not sure why it hasn’t bubbled up in priority of our features list before now – I’ll talk it over with @625alex; but, ironically, with the Community DTH for Chamberlain/LiftMaster MyQ being shut down a couple days ago, I presume this will reduce demand until the official replacement DTH is published.
Furthermore, this will become a major advocacy issue – again, ironically, because now I wish we had the users already on board. The outline from SmartThings is that Chamberlain is going to place significant restrictions on what SmartApps may use the DTH and for what specific commands and attributes.
We hope @jody.albritton realizes that we need SmartThings to strongly advocate for SmartTiles to be one of the approved SmartApps for MyQ, but really have no clue as to how that’s going to play out.
Interesting times!
Hmmm, St currently has no way of limiting access to specific device commands…
So I’d guess that chamberlain integration is a long way off, since the api doesn’t support command access controls…
It’s pretty comical, seriously limit commands?, so those folks are going to get what…, close but not open?
Because, garage doors have so many commands right?

Correct, I fear…
I presume, for example, that Chamberlain wants SmartThings to solidly prevent linking Amazon Alexa to the open/close Commands, for both security and safety. As we know, currently Alexa doesn’t have native garage door or lock controls, but we can easily sync a Virtual Switch (“Alexa, turn garage on.
” = close the garage door). I believe that Chamberlain will not allow any such workaround or hack to be permitted, and thus, a MyQ instance will have to be restricted to use only with officially vetted & published SmartApps.
This is a significant fundamental change to the SmartThings Device:Capability paradigm which should make any manufacturer / model of device that conforms to a standard Capability swappable with any other, in all SmartApps that do not use any custom Commands, Attributes or Events for that device.
I believe that SmartThings is facing the same challenge to accommodate Nest’s restrictions.
I suppose this sets the stage – and precedent – for the platform to handle all sorts of special cases, but every special case moves SmartThings further and further away from being an “open” system with an abstracted device type layer; on the other hand, SmartThings could avoid precedent here by playing hardball and pushing back – hard – on Chamberlain.
