The smartthings hub V3 was first produced and sold in/around September 2018 so I wonder if I find one of those it should be okay and not suffer from the missing firmware update issue should it?
You are correct. V3 hubs are not affected by that particular firmware issue. There are some newer v3 hubs that could possibly have an expired certificate but it can be fixed. If buying used, you should not have any issues.
Thank you for confirming that for me. I tried a used STH-ETH-200 from eBay and then a newer one from eBay a STH-ETH-250 (it was still in the sealed box). Both of them looked good all but they had no firmware version. Samsung customer support danced around the issue before they recommended, I try to return the hub and try to get my money back.
I’m not sure Samsung isn’t liable for damages here.
It doesn’t seem kosher to me that they just turned off updates to pieces of hardware such that they will not work as intended.
Well, anyway, I am hopeful that the new/used version 3 hub will work.
