Smartthings no longer an option in Harmony App? (May 2019)

No problems! Lycka till.

Phew! Thanks for that. Yes, I just managed to add by selecting “Entertainment Device”, entering Smartthings and Hub as you indicated and that worked. It then prompted for Samsung Account Login.

I had a similar problem previously with Smartthings that turned out to be country settings related. Maybe Harmony works the same way. Not all countries have the same devices available in the drop down lists?

At least it wasn’t a show stopper.

Samsung SmartThings NO LONGER supports Harmony, which means (I confirmed) that any new activity setup in Harmony will NOT appear in the SmartThings app. For me old activities still work but you can’t add any more activities in Harmony and have them show up in SmartThings.

Thanks Samsung for being bad to your customers…doesn’t make sense. Those who are interested should email or call SmartThings to request that they add back support for Harmony. Can be reached at:

Classic or new app?

new app, 5 circles around center circle, white icon

Don’t you mean “thanks Harmony”? It’s up to the 3rd parties now to make their products work with SmartThings.

Still works with the classic app. I have no plans to use the newer app anyway…

When was this announced?

Working on classic

Hi, did a new Harmony activity last week, and it works in the new app.

For what its worth this Smartthings article does suggest both the Classic and ‘new’ apps are supposed to work with a Harmony Hub.

The following is the Logitech equivalent article
https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/harmony-experience-with-smartthings

How many SmartThings hubs do you have in your account?

The last activity I added was a few weeks ago and I’m able to see it in the new app.

@HomeControl, wheres your source?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for replying. I have one SmartThings hub and one Logitech Harmony hub that I would like to get back linking to.

Do you know why Samsung recently stopped supporting Harmony, since SmartThings can NOT do anything regarding home automation and does not have a wireless+RF remote like Harmony has?

Regards,

The source about SmartThings no longer supporting Harmony is (1) one of SmartThings tech I spoke to and (2) within the Android app (Note 10+, Android 9) the choice of Devices no longer includes Logitech or Harmony.

Can’t figure out the logic in stopping the link to Harmony, makes no sense. SmartThings + Harmony makes for a very powerful consumer level system that can control audio video (Harmony + they have the remote control with the hub) while SmartThings can link these to switches, sensors, etc. that Harmony falls short. I know Samsung wants to expand SmartThings to control their appliances, great, but why take away a feature that is ALSO useful and not a conflict with that.

New app, one with white icon with 5 blue circles around a central circle. On Android 9 (Samsung Note 10+). Thanks for asking.

I’ve not used the new app for adding any Harmony activities, but I just looked and can see that Logitech is not an option, contrary to what the SmartThings support article indicates.

I am however able to see Logitech Harmony as an option using the classic SmartThings app, and I just used it to add two Harmony routines to SmartThings without issue. I also just used the Harmony app to add some SmartThings devices to Harmony, just to make sure that was still possible as well.

I completely redid all my activities last week (new TV). They’re all humming along fine.

Jason,

You’re brilliant! Thanks to you I was able to do what I need, which is to add new Harmony activities to SmartThings (so I can program a Z-wave battery powered 4 button/double control (for each button quick press function 1, hold 2 sec. function 2) to turn on/off Harmony activities that I just added. Here’s what you mentioned and I confirmed.

The new SmartThings app (5 circles around a circle in white icon) retains my old Harmony activities but will no longer connect to Logitech Harmony for any new ones. Thanks to you, I also installed the old SmartThings app (still on Google Play), logged into the same SmartThings account I use for the new app, and found the Logitech connection (not on the new app). Once I selected my Harmony hub on the OLD app, within a minute or so my old and new Harmony activities appeared!

I then closed the old app and opened the newer SmartThings app. Wow, all of my new Harmony activities appeared there also, as long as you’re on the same SmartThings account. I am now able to program the Z wave button.

In summary, for those who want new Harmony activities transmitted to the new SmartThings app:

(1) Use the OLD SmartThings app to bring over the new Harmony activities to your SmartThings account – simply select Logitech under Marketplace > Remotes & Buttons. Once you add your Harmony Hub you do not have to repeat adding this (I think) to the OLD SmartThings app. Repeat this each time you add a new Harmony activity.

(2) You can now open the NEW SmartThings app that is on the same SmartThings account and can now see and work with the Harmony activities – not possible with the new app since it no longer allows you to connect with Logitech Harmony. PROBLEM FIXED.

Hopefully Samsung will not remove the capability from the old app or make the old app not function any more. I have requested that they add this back to the new app but who knows.

THANKS AGAIN for solving my dilemma. J

Best Regards, Happy Holidays and New Years to all.
