I guess (and hope) the changes were made in preparation for more interactive tiles:

Feature Request: interactive tiles

This would be a nice addition for one of the next versions of the Smartthings app: [ezgif-2-237109236a] The code must be somewhere, because these tiles are already available in the quick settings panel thing.
