SmartThings and Ring.com

I currently have Ring.com for my security system. I have been able to get the Ring cameras to show up as motion detectors within SmartThings, but I cannot figure out how to use Ring door sensors in SmartThings. Without removing the Ring door sensors from my security system, am I also able to get them to show up as devices within SmartThings? How have you done it?

Ring provides the cloud->cloud integration with ST. I know that some of their devices are not included in that integration. You should contact Ring support to determine if they should work.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the ring security system devices like sensors, you have to choose one system or the other. If they are operating with your ring security system, they will not show up in smartthings and vice versa. The cameras can be used with both, but not the sensors or the keypad.

What you can do is use Alexa routines (not smartthings routines.) as an intermediary.

The sensors which are connected to your ring security system can be used as triggers for an Alexa routine and you can then use that to turn on either real or virtual devices in SmartThings. It’s a little clunky, and obviously it’s cloud dependent, but it does work for most things. We use this method at my own house.

Do you have a Smartthings/Aeotec hub? It’s fine if you don’t, but if you do you have some more options for creating virtual devices.

So far that integration is only for the cameras. Ring lighting and the ring security devices like contact sensors do not show up. :disappointed_relieved:

Ok. Bummer. Thanks. I’ve used the Alexa routines, but I get tired of having to set up some automations in Alexa, some in SmartThings, some in IFTTT, some in SmartRules, some in Smart Life, some in Google… and then to try to find where that automation is that quit working which you set up 4 years ago…

I just recently installed a couple of Ring door sensors and I’m guessing because they are Z-Wave, Ring didn’t bother to include them in the integration.

I haven’t seen anything official, but the Ring integration has always been limited to only a few of their Wi-Fi models. Not even all of the cameras are included.

The lighting, which uses a proprietary frequency, and the Z wave devices connected to the ring keypad have never been included. :man_shrugging:t2:
