i have these tags and they did not work for me for luggage tracking at MIA. would think tons of other phones around to ping. i wouldn’t get a location back. do they use other Samsung phones that ONLY have the Smartthings app or do they use all Samsung phones for a ping. also can they use apple phones for a ping or is that just the smarrttag 3 that can. thanks
The Samsung Find network uses Galaxy phones that have ‘offline finding’ turned on. That used to be the default but I don’t know if it still is.
Are we talking about tracking checked luggage? I’ve always imagined that, in an airport, by the time the tags had been separated from your phones long enough to consider themselves lost they might not be a good place to be found and their location reported back. I don’t know what the reality is like.
Update: I am talking specifically about passing through airports above, where I am imagining the tags might find themselves in an unsympathetic environment for BLE.
I’ve had good luck with this tag. In fact, mine is at home right now and says it was recently seen by a device even though no one is at home.
