SmartTag won't connect to phone

I wonder if anyone can help.

I bought a Samsung SmartTag and I am trying to connect it to my Samsung Galaxy S10 and the SmartThings app.

It will recognise the SmartTag and start setting it up, then I get the message “couldn’t download device controller try tapping”.

The device will appear, I can rename it, but it just says “not nearby” and is greyed out.

I have reset the phone, reinstalled the app, checked for software updates.

I’ve also tried this on a newer model Samsung phone and the same thing happened.

Is this a faulty SmartTag or am I doing something wrong?

As SmartThings are currently experiencing unspecified issues with their backend servers (see status.smartthings.com) I’d be tempted to leave it for the moment and try again later. One of mine isn’t responding correctly while others are.
