I bought a Galaxy smart tag 2 to detect whenever I leave an umbrella behind. Specifically, I wanted a notification on my phone when I left it behind.
I set up the smart tag and it is working, connects to the phone (a Galaxy S22 Ultra), and is shown on a map. I turned on “Left behind” feature - but it does not work, no matter what I do! When I am out of range of the smart tag, if I go into the app, it just says “not nearby” or “not connected” - but I have to actively go into the app to see this! There is no notification when the tag falls out of range!
I have reset the tag a couple of times (not always easy…) and removed and reinstall the app, but this feature refuses to work!
Of course, I can keep the app open and check when the umbrella is no longer close - but If I could remember to do that, I probably would have remembered to take the umbrella with me!
Do you get ST push notifications in general? I always get notified when my phone is away from the tag. Make sure notifications are turned on in ST itself (Menu→Gear Menu→Notifications) and make sure notifications are enabled for the ST app in your phone settings.
Not really no. If anything I have had the opposite problems as I used to get notifications even when the tag was in a ‘safe place’. It used to be a frequent issue but I hadn’t seen it for months until yesterday. The basic problem seems to be that the tag isn’t being disconnected from the phone until it is outside the safe place (you can see from the tag history that it is being reported in the same geolocation as the moving phone even though it hasn’t gone anywhere). However it is probably more subtle than that.
I’m trying to think of a way it could go wrong for you but I’m struggling.
There are two types of notifications, the one where the tag is no longer near its paired device and one when the tag is no longer near a specific location as defined by a supported hub location. I get notifications for the latter even when the tag is one room away from the hub. I only see the former when my phone is out of range of the tag.
Is that the ‘offline finding devices’ functionality that you get with the Station and recent Samsung TVs? I don’t have either so I just get the basic ‘left behind’ functionality between the phone and the tag.
