On a useability note
Any chance Smartthings can make the font bigger… going from the groovy SL to the plugin version… damn thats a small font
I’m not sure if I will bother with Smart lighting now that I have not had it for almost a year. Especially since we have the new automation limit. I never really liked the fact that is was separated from the other automations, it was not user friendly jumping around from automatons to the Smart Lighting section.
I just took a look at it and the biggest problem for me is that @TAustin DSC Alarm panel, devices don’t show as available only the main panel. So no motion sensors or contacts are available to be used in automations.
When Smart lighting was originally released, there were requests to add support for window shades (as well as a few other capabilities such as doorControl). This was done by adding the “Switch” capability to a number of DTHs that didn’t necessarily match the devices and didn’t make sense from a logical point of view…for example a window shade having a “switch” capability. The LUA edge drivers that are replacing those DTHs no longer have the switch capability. In an effort to support as much of Smart lighting as possible in regards to backwards compatibility, we decided to add support for these few capabilities and maintain that functionality. It’s definitely not intuitive and we won’t be adding additional capabilities in the future but would prefer to grandfather these ones in to prevent breaking the subset locations that rely on them.
Sync behavior now is counterintuitive.
- shade level does not sync with other shades or remotes
- shade open connected to switch on
- adding shade to the light group breaks dimming
The dim level is at least in sync. But the “mirroring” is uni-directional. When I turned on a secondary device, the controller hasn’t been updated.
Every two-way mirroring takes 4 routines. I have most of the rooms with two-gang switches.
Cube controller takes 10 routines x 3 for me
There is no “toggle” for shades. so multiply the number of interactions by 2.
I have rather a small apartment and use hundreds of routines. 1000 is a high number but I can imagine it can be not enough for some users.
I was wondering about that. The native Rules API rules are the ones that really matter to me and there is simply no indication of what limits apply there.
I am highly unlikely to use ‘Smart lighting’ unless it gets an upper case ‘L’ so I can refer to it in a sentence without quotes, but there is also the question of whether it is going to be subject to the same abuse as Routines and Scenes are when devices are deleted.
I can’t find the new Plugin version in the Automations tab. Add Routine > Recommend > Scroll Down > SmartApps disappeared a few days ago. Take a look at the screenshot.
Plus on Home or Automations page
Create Routine
Discover (at bottom)
Scroll down, probably to the bottom
I can’t still find the Discover but I know that.
with @HalD Many thanks! But Korean users seem to have a slightly different UI.
I’m not seeing it in my Android app yet. I have a number of automations under the Groovy Smart Lighting app.
When I create a new routine and then “Discover”, it has two “Lighting” suggestions, but they just create standard routines.
Odd, I have more options after the lighting choice on the bottom of your page.
Maybe your app isn’t up to date or it’s a region thing?
Probably a region thing
What country are you in @limitless00 and @RebelMagpie ? It looks like its still region locked
Korea. I think so. But I already have groovy Smart Lighting Smartapps installed from classic ST app. @vlad I wonder if this will be migrated to new plugin version.
@Automated_House I’m in Australia. I have access, and am heavily using, the Groovy Smart Lighting app, but not seeing the new one.
Can CONFIRM the new Smart Lighting plugin does not have color sync. This is totally unacceptable. Every platform offers this and SmartThings also previously supported this using Color Coordinator, an official SmartApp. It’s absurd that if you have multiple rgb bulbs in one room you need to individually pull up and choose the color for each.
Very strange that they would develop a new app for this and leave out a basic function.
It’s also confusingly worded. For example, “Devices to control” and then “Select devices” sound like the same thing, making it difficult to figure out which is which. And considering you can only select ONE option in “Select devices” using plural “devices” is incorrect and bizarre.
Do better SmartThings. Do better.
even in Italy with the android App I don’t see this new smart Lighting plug-in. I used it in the past, then abandoned when I discovered it would be abandoned … I did everything on routines … hundreds of routines … I would like to play on this novelty but still nothing here
