Thought I’d update my progress. I have 3x 30w Tradfri drivers working with ST now! Thanks to @bschuring for the help!
I looked through the logs and see what you described. The 30w driver repeatedly failed to discover properly. I see the 30w association event come through, but the first or second discovery commands after that always fail. One thing we could try is to change your network channel. You are currently on channel 24 and it has the worst RSSI (-83) of all the channels. There are a few with better RSSI that we can try and see if improves things. If that doesn’t work we could try to reform the network. That would require you to reset and rejoin your devices, but would give us a clean slate for Zigbee. I will start with forcing the channel to change. Try rejoining the device again and let me know how it goes.
This solved the issue for me and hopefully helps someone else out there having heaps of difficulty paring Tradfri devices or other Zigbee devices.
Interesting. Last I heard you weren’t able to change the zigbee channel without resetting the hub and starting over. Has that changed @bschuring or did I misunderstand a while ago?
For future reference, I had the same issue as @Adrenalin, but with some Tradfri E27 bulbs that would not join my network (I got the same ZBJOIN with 0000 parent and no capabilities etc). @johnconstantelo solution of adding/removing ghost devices did not work for me either.
So I got @bschuring to change Zigbee channel (I think it was 24, its now 15) and these bulbs joined ok, I did have to reboot my hub.
One other point of note is that after the Zigbee channel change, my Xiaomi devices stopped sending events to the hub, but a physical button press on each of them seemed to bring them back online. I did this before they were marked as offline (ie, within an hour or so of the channel change). Where I missed a couple, I had to re-add them to the network, but did not have to remove them first so it was minimal impact.
Other than the Xiaomi devices, the change of channel did not cause any issues. My other Zigbee battery operated devices did not have any issues.
I’m pretty sure that I’m suffering from the same RSSI channel issue after failing to connect my Tradfri 30W drivers having tried dozens of times. I managed to fluke one pairing tonight but I still have 2 more to pair.
I see a zbjoin: {“dni”:“D459”,“d”:“000D6FFFFEA4D42A”,“capabilities”:“00”,“endpoints”:,“parent”:“0000”,“joinType”:17} message but that’s where it ends…
@bschuring - would you be able to change the RSSI channel on my hub please?
I’m on my third 30W driver and trying to get it to pair. #1 paired after literally hours of trial and error. #2 seemed to pair quickly and #3 is being a PITA! As per my post a couple up, I see a zbjoin message but the pairing does not complete. Can an admin please help by changing the ZigBee channel to improve the RSSI as suggested as the fix by @bschuring?
I’ve had the same issues, had one trådfri driver that finally Connected itself, after many tries. Ansd that one worked perfect. Tried to connect two others, no luck. Went to Ikea and purchased three new ones (in case there were something wrong With the two first ones.) Then started livelogging again, and found these and several posts about channel 24. Checked my hub, and ofc did it use channel 24. I’ve now added the two drivers to my Hue Bridge, but since I want to add other stuff from IKEA as well I was hoping @bschuring or someone else could help me change the Channel on my hub.
I’m having the same issue as well. I tried contacting @bschuring, but I don’t think he works for Samsung anymore and support is as useless as can be expected. Is there anyone else I can contact to help me here?
When I connected my 30W drivers, i switch off 2.4 GHz and had only 5Ghz running and smartthing hub I had connected to ethernet then the hub finde them directly
It doesn’t seem like many people have luck getting support to change their channel so I ended up with the following:
I tried for days with no luck after taking apart my closet install and taking the driver down to my hub and setting it on top. Gave up and reset the Ikea equipment and just used the 5 button remote alone paired directly with the driver (the button paired fine with ST hub v2 the first try while the driver wouldn’t).
I hated the solution, but my Zigbee channel was on 24, so I had to do a factory reset on my hub and it set it to 19 on reset since ST doesn’t let you modify the channel. I forced my home wifi 2.4Ghz channel from Auto to Channel 1 as well prior to reset just to have spectral room since it shares spectrum with Zigbee. My hub is in my garage about 5ft away from my wifi access point and the LED driver is installed in my closet 30+ ft away through walls and I didn’t want to disassemble my trim that hides the wiring. It paired the first time after resetting the driver with no issues and didn’t have to bring it close. Some Ikea devices just don’t like channels 24/25, some are just fine with it.
Now I have to go re-join all my equipment and set up my automations all over again but at least everything works now.
The craziest solution worked for pairing my hub and Tradfri driver. I wrapped them together in aluminum foil and started pairing. It was a suggestion I found on another board. I tried all the other elaborate reset solutions, stopping just short of changing by Zigbee channel. Aluminum foil worked on the first try.
