Samsung Smartthings multipurpose sensor for garage gate/door

Hi there,

I want to use Samsung Smartthings multipurpose sensor for garage gate. As you know(may be) under the sensor setting you can set it “Use on garage door”, not sure what thats mean but my sensor shows as always closed after I installed it on my gate.

My guess it because my garage gate made from metal? Is there any other way to use the sensor to know the gate is opened/closed?

Thanks

That means it is used as a tilt sensor. So when a garage door rolls up, it shows open, and down shows closed. If you have a gate that moves side to side, this would explain why it always shows closed. Is there a way you can utilize the contact of the sensor instead?

Ok, thanks. My garage door rolls up and down, not side to side. when ask “Is there a way you can utilize the contact of the sensor instead?” what do you mean by that?

Use it as a contact sensor (open:close) using the magnet that comes with it.

thanks. I think I did try both way. I will try to change the battery today, may be it cause the problem, but it shows 65% left. dunno.

Don’t worry about the battery since ZigBee devices often get battery levels wrong due to how the DTH interprets the maximum and minimum voltages of lithium batteries.

Ha, thats funny :slightly_smiling_face:, I noticed this too, but was confused about it
