Yeah my ring does pretty good in low light but I haven’t tried ‘no light’. Something I wish they would change though is the ‘on call’ colour of the doorbell button to be white instead of blue because right now when you actually use the cam, every has a blue tint to it due to the bright blue LEDs being used during the call.
Thank you for the confirmations. One more thing, about the in app integration with other automation devices, does anyone know if we can turn on the philips hue lights? If not, when we are responding to a ring and talking to someone, if we open another app (like hue app) to turn on the lights, when we return to ring app, will the video still on, or do the person have to press the bell again?
Not sure I understand what exactly you are trying to do Sergio. Here is what I have set up for mine.
I have an IFTTT recipe for “If new Motion detected at Front Door, then Switch on Outside Light - Front Door”
The motion is detected by the Ring. My outside front door light is turned on/off by a GE z-wave switch I installed.
I’m sure you can do it with HUE lights. IFTTT has HUE integration so it should be easy to do whenever you want.
Hi Sergio, I’d invite you to check out the new SkyBell HD. Far better than our 2.0 unit, and has a lot to offer. Here’s some highlights:
- 1080p High Definition Camera
- Wide angle video without fisheye or periscope effect
- Full color night vision - Not black and white like normal IR
- Free cloud recording
- IFTTT integration includes Triggers AND Actions, Ring only has triggers. So you can command SkyBell to do things: change color of button, record video
- You can start the video feed at any time from the app for remote monitoring
- We are completely weatherproof, with no removable battery to allow water into the device
- We are part of HomeKit, Comcast Xfinity, Works with Nest and will soon be releasing direct integrations with Amazon Echo and SmartThings.
I attached some pics in case it helps.
Thanks mike, that should do it.
Best regards
Thanks Andrew. I really like some of the functions sky bell has. No doubt it has lots of great features but people say it fails a lot without a good internet connection. Furthermore and that’s the biggest problems: it needs b/g/n, and 2 power sources. If it only needed the doorbell chime power source I might be able to work something out but with 2 it’s impracticable were I want it.
It needs two power sources?

$30 + S & H with no feedback from anyone impartial to say if it’s a good improvement or not it’s pretty hard to make that decision. I will still wait until it is sold by Amazon(read some reviews) before making my decision on which one to try out…
Any info on upgrade path for us folks on the last year model that sorta kinda works some of the time?
It doesn’t look like the power requirements are any different from the previous version - not sure what @asergioam is talking about.
Came here to say mostly this. I’ll add that motion detection is practically useless if your door faces the street. Adjusting sensitivity gets me basically either every car that drives by, or someone’s arm as they are already thru my door.
Doesn’t that get annoying when the light comes on repeatedly during the day? I get motion detection for every car that passes due to my door facing the road. Sensitivity adjustment doesn’t help.
And it looks like they now include b/g/n:

And it looks like they now include b/g/n:
Technically still just B, Lameness. I’m pretty sure upgrading that chipset to actually support N would add 5 cents to the BOM.
Existing SkyBell customers can get $40 off a new SkyBell HD. Contact customer service and they’ll send you a unique coupon code.
SkyBell HD doesn’t need two power sources. You just need two wires at your front door. One wire to the doorbell chime and the other wire to a low-voltage transformer.
Mike, how often do you recharge your battery on the Ring?
I have Ring and it is working great , i ended up subscribing to the monitoring as it is only 30$ a year but i would really like to have a record on demand or view on demand option , which i guess it is not hard at all to have with a software upgrade .
Hi,
Finally Winter has come in the past few days on the Eastern Coast of Canada, and it was really cold…
-40 Celsisus which is the same in Farenheits, so pretty damn cold, and my 2 Kunas still work smoothly.
I do not think that the other competitors out there can beat that…
Regards.
wish Kuna had something in brushed nickle
