I am getting the same error when trying to create a virtual switch. Support said it is a known issue that they are working on.

For now, add your virtual switch using the SmartThings SmartApp I posted about earlier this morning:

Cannot create simulated switch

You can also install the SmartThings SmartApp that allows you to create virtual devices without the need for logging into the IDE. It allows you to create a Virtual Switch and Virtual Dimmer Switch Goto Marketplace / + More and scroll to bottom: [Screenshot_20180319-090215] [Screenshot_20180319-090825~2] It will create each device as Virtual Switch 1…2. Then go into Things and rename it.
