besides the aeotec one are there any other brands that run local in australia?
SmartThings is in the middle of a huge transition for its architecture. In the future, Zigbee and zwave devices connected to a SmartThings/Aeotec hub will use “Edge Drivers” instead of Groovy DTHs, and ALL edge drivers will run local. So probably by the end of this year, any smart plug that connects to a hub will run locally in SmartThings. And maybe even some WiFi plugs as well.
Edge is currently in developer beta, and there are some drivers you can try now, but still glitchy. But the trajectory is good.
FAQ: I have no idea what Edge is. Is that a new developer tool? (2022)
As far as stuff that runs locally today without using an Edge driver, there are a few Zigbee plugs that should.
IKEA Tradfri has one. Simple and inexpensive. There’s an issue with their battery powered buttons using up batteries really fast if they connect through an ikea plug, though. I’m too tired to go through all those details today but there’s lots of forum discussion if you search for it, doesn’t affect buttons of other brands, it’s an IKEA issue. Here’s one discussion thread.

But if you don’t plan to use their buttons, the plugs are a good candidate.

Otherwise more choices are coming soon because of Edge, but no exact timeline on those.
